Thy Word
When reflecting on what to write for this edition of the College newsletter, a song that my brother introduced me to when I was a young boy came straight into my head. Thy Word, written by Amy Grant and Michael W Smith in 1984, is a timeless classic that I am sure many of us remember.
Thy Word, based on Psalm 119:105, is a reminder that God’s word brings direction to our lives and comfort during troubled times. What an encouragement this is for us as we try and navigate the current difficulties that face us personally, locally, nationally and globally.
However, as history demonstrates, we are not always quick to act upon what is good for us.
Healthy eating and exercise is good for us, but we struggle to implement this into our daily lives. There is clearly enough wealth in the world, yet people die each day from preventable diseases and lack of food due to our selfishness. Our spoken words can cause considerable pain, yet we choose to gossip and speak harshly to one another. God’s word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path (Psalm 119:105), however, we often choose to ‘go it alone’.
What I love about teaching in this Christian environment here at CCK, is that we are able to provide an environment for our students where seeking God each day opens up the opportunity for God to guide and comfort us. This may be through programmed student-led worship, class devotions, lunchtime bible clubs or Christian Life lessons to name a few. Our students, your children, are in a place where, should they choose, can seek God and experience Him.
As we continue to navigate 2024, may we all prioritise God’s Word and allow Him to direct our steps and comfort us as we walk the path that is set before us.
Grace and peace
