Reading Seeds

It has long been known that reading to children at any age, including Year 6, is beneficial for their learning and emotional wellbeing.

Recent research involving reading to premature babies demonstrated accelerated improvement in those read to. It wasn’t necessary to understand the text.

The rhythm of the reader’s voice was the main contributing factor.

The Science of Reading research has highlighted this point, noting the enormous difference between those children read to regularly and those not.

Reading highlights rhythm, enhances background knowledge and builds vocabulary.

This is just one example of the difference reading to your child can make. Oral language is an extremely accurate way of determining reading success.

It is recommended families read to their primary school age children at least 15 – 30 minutes each day.

Happy reading.
