Library News

McCarthy Catholic College Library 2024

In the Library, we are really enjoying Term 2 and so are our students. Our Library space is productive with many students absorbed in their classes and break-times in the Library. Whether it is reading for enjoyment or studying or playing games, puzzles, chess or socialising during the breaks, the Library is busy with the hustle and bustle of activities.

Building online search skills

Again this year our Year 7 and 8 English students have been building their online searching skills in Oliver to find the book that is just right for them for their Renaissance Accelerated Reader program.  We encourage our students to use the online search strategies to assist them when choosing a book on the Accelerated Reading program that suits their interest and range.

Year 8 History students have also been learning more about using the Oliver library catalogue to access accurate and reliable research books and online resources for the class task using our Medieval Reading Lists.  Into Term 2 it is great to see both Year 7 and 8 students engaged in reading for enjoyment and information during their timetabled library reading classes.

Resources available through the library

It is important to remind students that our Library has thousands of books, but also a wealth of curriculum relevant online resources including websites, Sora ebooks and electronic resources.  These are available 24x7 accessible from our library page.  If students would like more guidance we encourage them to come to the library, use our guide or ask a librarian for help.

New books

We have received some amazing new books and added them to our collection this term.  We encourage students to come and try something new.

Opening hours

As a reminder, during Term 2 our library is open from 8am until 4pm each day.  Study Club will be held in the library on Tuesdays from 3.15- 4.15pm.

We are enjoying seeing our students studying, learning, reading, relaxing and having fun in the library environment.
