SAKGP Garden and Kitchen Programme
News - from Chris and Mel in the kitchen & garden
Our cooking and gardening classes are each Tuesday
We would love to have more volunteers in both the garden and kitchen classes.
No garden or kitchen skills required, enthusiasm to support the students as they learn is all you need.
If you would like to know more, come into the office and see Chris (Principal)
In Cooking this week Grade 2 and 3 made Corn Fritters, Tomato Salsa and Heirloom Tomato Salad.
From the garden we used a variety of tomatoes, corn, coriander, garlic, basil and lemon thyme. We also used the tomato passata the 4/5 Class made.
For the Corn Fritters, David, Noah Rui. Rosa and their group carefully cut the kernels from the corn cobs and weighed out the correct amount for the fritter mixture. Vega, Percy and Jayden, Owen and their group measured out the GF flours and spices and whisked the eggs to make the batter for the Corn Fritters. They then took turns to mix all the fritter ingredients together ready to cook.
Ella, Aleida, Marlin and their group measured out all the ingredients for the Tomato Salsa and chopped the coriander and spring onions, they then used the food processor to combine all the ingredients with the Tomato Passata to make the delicious Salsa. Oliver, Douglas, Marlin and their group cut up all the different tomatoes we harvested from the garden for the Heirloom Tomato salad.
After recess, Johnny, Noah, Cooper, Vega and their groups took turns to cook the Corn Fritters while Emma’s group cleaned up and set the tables and plated up the salad and the salsa. They did a great job cleaning up and made sure all the dishes were washed and put away.
Everyone tried all the dishes and enjoyed what they cooked.
Sidney said “The Corn Fritters with the Salsa was better than Spag Bol and that is my favourite food in the whole universe!”
Pete gave the Corn Fritters a thumbs up!
Johnny said, “I tried everything and it was good”
Well done Grade 2 and 3 and thanks Emma for a great cooking session.
