What a big fortnight at TPS!
Mr Hogan
It certainly is lovely to be back at school after my extended break. A big thank you to Mrs Pearce, who did a wonderful job as acting Principal, well supported by Mrs Haw and all the staff. Just looking at the key dates, Term 2 is going to be a very big, action packed term.
Our Young Leaders ran a beautiful and moving ANZAC service here at school. Each member had a very important role, which they completed perfectly. Their public speaking was to be commended and the respect shown by all of our students throughout the service were exemplary.
On Friday, our students who represented our school at the Dawn and Community service were equally impressive.
The feedback from members of the audience were extremely positive, and a big thank you to the 25 students who took part in the ANZAC march. This is a record number of students during my time at the school and was a great representation of the school.
Mother's Day is on Sunday, May 12th and we will be holding our annual events to celebrate this day.
On Monday, our Parents and Friends are holding their Mother's Day stall, with gifts ranging from $1-$7. Please make sure students have correct cash on the day.
Our Mother's Day afternoon will be held on Thursday, May 8th from 1:00pm (please note new start time). Our Mums can enjoy a sausage for lunch and take part in a range of different craft and fun activities in the afternoon. This will take part on the Basketball court. We hope to see lots of families there.
What a great addition to our yard is the brand new Gaga pit. Gaga pits are very popular in schools now and students are making great use of this space with games of Gaga ball happening all throughout the day.
A huge thank you to our Parents and Friends for their ongoing fundraising efforts, that has led to this purchase, and to Matt Daniel and Mark Watson for constructing the pit.
Finally, well done to our Hands on Learning crew, supported by Josh and Brett who stained the pit, laid the weed mat and spread the sand to get it ready for everyone to use.
What a beautiful morning for our school Cross Country. The students looked great in their house colours and the competition was red hot, with some fantastic running.
Mrs Young puts in a lot of work to get these events up and going, and it was no different yesterday.
Thank you to the many families and friends who came along to cheer on all of our runners.
From here, we are taking over 20 students to the next stage in Moama on May 16th to compete at the inter school Cross Country.
1st place getters were:
Foundation: Indi H and Mack H
Grade 1: Cydi E and Harvey N
Grade 2: Maya F and Benny D
Age 8/9: Tilly E and Zayden W
Age 10/11: Ella F and Sonny M
Age 12/13: Ava B and Billy D
Winning House: Deakin
Congratulations again to all runners.
It is hard to believe that we are starting to already think about 2026, but our school tours and information night are quickly coming up.
On Wednesday, May 21st we will be running school tours from 9:30am. This is an opportunity to see the school in action and ask questions whilst touring our facilities.
That evening, at 6:30pm, we will be running an information night for all prospective parents. This is where you will hear more about the programs we run, structure of the school and meet important staff members in our school community.
We look forward to meeting our 2026 prospective Prep families.
A reminder that the speed zone around our school is 40km/h. I have witnessed and had reports of cars clearly over this limit. I have asked the local police to do more patrols around drop off and pick up times, but please be careful around our school. A reminder too, that our school crossings are unmanned, meaning that you must stop for students or families as they are crossing.
Thank you for your co-operation with this.
Our school camping program is obviously a highlight for the year, and students love going to school camp with their friends and teachers.
The dates for this years Camps are printed in the key dates section of the newsletter.
This year, we have our Grade 2 students going overnight to Pioneer Settlement in Swan Hill, where they experience what life was like in the olden days.
Our Grade 3/4 students have an Adventure Camp to Murray Life Adventures in Torrumbarry. This camp is amazing, and really challenges our students to overcome fears and have a go at activities, ranging from climbing walls, flying fox, giant swing and obstacle courses. The students will spend 2 jam packed days at Torrumbary and come home extremely exhausted.
Our Grade 5/6 Camp this year is to Cottage By The Sea in Queenscliff, where they will be able to go Surfing, Fishing, visit rock pools and spend time at the beach with their friends. Staff continually report that it is their most enjoyable camp to attend and the kids absolutely love it.
Obviously the cost of camps, like all things, is increasing and the school makes every effort to subsidise as much cost as we can. The costings for camps vary from each camp, and once these are finalised, we will share with families to give themselves as much time as possible to prepare. A reminder that the $400 School Savings bonus can be used on camp costs as well.
Our bi-annual school fete will be happening on Friday, May 7th.
The Fete committee have got the wheels moving for the Fete but we still need helpers, if anyone would like to be involved please speak to Cherish Todd or Karen in the office.
Our School Fete is our major fundraiser for the year, so any help to make this a fantastic evening will be greatly appreciated.
Have a great weekend everyone!
