Italian

2025 Prep students have enthusiastically adapted to the routine of going to language classes and working with another teacher other than their class teacher. Well done Preps!! The students have been absolutely delightful to meet and begin their journey of learning Italian together.
They have been learning how to greet in a formal capacity such as Buongiorno and Buonasera - Good Morning and Good Afternoon. They are increasingly responding to simple conversational phrases such as Come ti chiami? Mi chiamo …. My name is ….
Prep students are learning to count from 1 to ten in Italian and are absolutely exerting their efforts to achieve this goal. Prep students understand that Italian is a subject and that this language is spoken in a country called Italy, and the students have been exposed to learning the names of the colours on the Italian flag. Most students understand the concept of what a country is and that Italy is on the other side of the world. They know Italy is in the shape of a boot and mainly surrounded by water.
The Preps are learning to sing the Ciao, Buongiorno, Come stai? song, and thoroughly enjoy learning through playing games, songs and craft activities. To celebrate Carnevale the students created a mask.
Grade 1 students spent the first few weeks of this term revising basic conversational language, numbers to 10 and 20. Although students recognise the different greetings according to the time of day and to whom they are communicating with, they now have made excellent progress with their automatic recall.
Grade 1 students are continuing to revise the names of the days of the week along with the correct pronunciation. Students have a better understanding that Italy is located on the other side of the world and the capital city of Italy is Rome. Some students understand that the seasons in Italy are opposite to our seasons in the Southern Hemisphere.
Students revised the names of colours including the colours on the Italian flag, the names of body parts and expanded their repertoire of the names of items in the classroom and how to ask for them.
Grade 1 students have also increased their vocabulary on expressing how they feel ie. Come stai? bene male cosi cosi caldo freddo fame sete
Grade 2 students have worked with great enthusiam and to the best of their abilities to complete set tasks. Students have been revising some common instructional language i.e Capsici? Do you all understand? Si capsico - yes I understand, sediti - all sit down, batti le mani - everyone clap hands, guardate -everyone look, ascolate - everyone listen, in piedi - on your feet, facciamo un cerchio - everyone make a circle, scrivete il nome e classe -everyone write your name and grade.
They have continued to revise greetings according to the time of day and respond accordingly, numbers to 20 and counting by 10s to 100. The Grade 2 students have been revising the names of the days of the week and the names of the planets that each day of the week has been named after. A big focus this term has been to learn the names of some classroom items and ask for the item. Students love role-plays and have used this platform to engage in learning Italian successfully.
