As we enter the final weeks of Term 1, we reflect on the season of Lent, a time of renewal, self-discipline and growth. This week, our Year 8 students focused on an essential virtue in our Catholic faith: resilience. Students engaged in activities designed to help them better understand and develop resilience in their everyday lives.
Resilience is not just about bouncing back from challenges; it’s about learning to persevere, adapting, and growing stronger through life’s difficulties. A central part of this week’s focus has been using the resilience project journals, where students have been tracking both their habits and moods. By reflecting on their emotional states and identifying patterns, we are hopeful that Year 8 will learn how to manage their feelings and responses to different situations. The habit and mood trackers are designed to help students develop positive mental health habits that will benefit them long-term, fostering both mental health and academic success.
My goal for Year 8 over the next two weeks is to finish off Term 1 on a really positive note. This can be done by continuing to work hard right until the last day of term, arriving at school and classes on time and treating all members of our community with respect- including themselves!
I am very proud of the hard work and maturity our students have demonstrated this Term. As we continue through Lent, we encourage families to support their children in their reflections, reminding them that Lent is not only a time of sacrifice but also a time for growth and deeper connection with God. Please also remind students to continue to track their mood and habits on ‘Wellbeing Wednesdays’ and to bring in their novels every Tuesday for D.E.A.R. I have been very impressed with the way the majority of Year 8 students have embraced reading during this time and I hope that this continues at home too.
