Principal's Message
Mr Stephen Mahoney
Congratulations to our Year 7 students who successfully completed their NAPLAN assessments in Week 7, albeit with some IT issues with our network. At all times students remained focused for each of the tasks.
It is important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing, but about assessing the learning progress of students in Year 7. Our College staff look forward to the results, together with other assessments we carry out in year 7 to assist in identifying specific support programs in literacy and numeracy for our students, many of which are already in operation.
Thank you to Mr Munro for overseeing the NAPLAN assessments and also to Mrs Slater (Head of Learning) and Mrs Heffernan (Head of Diverse Learning) for assisting Mr Munro.
Just a reminder to our year 7 parents that interim reports will be accessible via Compass on Tuesday, 8 April (Week 10).
Year 12 Assessment block - Wednesday, 26 March - Friday, 4 April
Year 11 Assessment block - Wednesday, 2 April - Friday, 11 April
Last week Year 12 began their important HSC assessment block and Year 11 students have their first assessment period this week. Students have the responsibility of looking closely at the assessment timetable and being at the College well before the commencement of each assessment and using the time in between assessments wisely. The Learning Centre is currently open with an extended time from 7.30am - 5.00pm each day during these assessment periods of the term. It has been wonderful to see so many students taking advantage of these spaces in the learning centre either in individual or peer group study sessions.
Post assessments - for all students in years 7, 8, 11 and 12, early next term it is crucial that students seek effective feedback that assists them to reflect on their learning from term 1 and then make adjustments to make better progress in their learning for term 2. I strongly encourage all students to enter into discussions with their classroom teachers to recognise what they have done well so far within these current assessment tasks but importantly identify areas for improvement.
The overall focus here for students at St Aloysius should be on a sustained period of incremental improvement on their learning journey, no matter what year group they may be in. Students who do this, together with having an attendance rate above 95% place them into a category to succeed academically at the College.
A reminder to all students and their families with the commencement of term 2 all students will return to school in full winter uniform. All year 7, 8 , 11 and 12 students please see the diagram below for full uniform requirements.
To note:
Just a reminder to parents that applications for enrolment close on the following dates:
As a requirement of the Development Application for our building project we conducted a consultation meeting open to parents/residents situated in close proximity to the College on Monday night last week. Thank you to the parents that did attend and we welcomed your feedback and those of local residents. We continue to hold discussions with Sutherland Council and look forward to a positive response to this development application.
On behalf of myself and the College staff I would like to wish all parents/carers, students and staff a very happy, Holy Easter. We would also like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude for the support that you have all provided during this term.
End of Term 1:
Last day of classes for term 1 will be on Friday, 11 April at the normal dismissal time of 2.50pm.
Beginning of Term 2:
The first day of classes for Term 2 will be on Tuesday, 29 April as staff will be engaged in a staff development day on Monday, 28 April. Please contact the College office if you need your child to be supervised on the staff development day.
As always…Up Up Cronulla.
God Bless.
