The year started slowly with both classes but the tools are out now and the Wacky Racers designs are starting to take shape. With the help of Dan in the workshop the students are learning some incredible skills. Our aim is to complete these Wacky Racers, a new project for the Product Design class, by Week 8 or 9. There will be a number of criteria for the design project. Such things as aerodynamic design, style and creativity and the obvious speed in a race. We are really looking forward to seeing the end results from these budding designers.

Year 7S have been busy honing their embroidery skills, diving into the world of needlework. Over the past few weeks, they’ve learned how to thread needles, tie knots, and sew a variety of stitches. In addition to mastering these essential techniques, the students have also explored the creative use of colour, dying their calico fabric in their chosen hues to match their designs.
Working in teams, the students collaborated to solve challenges, share ideas, and bring their unique visions to life. The results so far have been impressive, with each student producing creative and exciting outcomes. We look forward to seeing the final pieces and celebrating the students’ hard work and creativity!

Our Technology rotations have been going full steam ahead this term. Our Textiles and Systems students have been working hard on their new skills and are learning to be patient and persistent when it comes to mastering tricky skills.
In Textiles, our students have been making their own patterns, cutting fabric, dyeing it a range of colours and starting to add applique o create their final soft toy. We have seen some crazy designs such as fishcows and pickles!
In Systems, the students have been learning how to solder, one of the trickiest skills to learn. Our students have been super focused, willing to ask questions, make mistakes and try new methods to get better results.
There is still much more to come however they are making good progress. Keep an eye out in our final Newsletter for their final results.
