Intermediate Cricket Results
On Thursday 7 March, the Year 9/10 Intermediate cricket team from Wantirna College participated in a thrilling day of competition. The team displayed outstanding sportsmanship and skill across two competitive matches and we thank teacher Jai Edwards for guiding us as Coaches.
The squad was co-captained by Adam Veljovic and Kye Tasevski, who led from the front and kept the team motivated throughout the day. In the first match, Wantirna College faced Upwey. Batting first, Wantirna set a mammoth total before their bowlers took control. The standout performer of the game was James Atkinson, who delivered an exceptional spell, taking an incredible 5 wickets for just 2 runs. His performance, combined with the team’s all-around effort, saw Wantirna secure a massive victory, defeating Upwey by a staggering 150 runs.
With spirits high, the team advanced to the grand final against Rowville. Despite their best efforts, Wantirna fell short in the decider, losing by 8 wickets. Rowville’s strong batting lineup proved too much to handle, but the team fought hard until the end, displaying resilience and determination.
Overall, the day was a great success, with Wantirna College showcasing their talent and teamwork. Special thanks go to Giuseppe Strati and Jett Vozzo for their excellent coaching, as well as Mr. Jai Edwards for his support and guidance.
