SWPBS - Blue Award
Earlier this Term, I had the honour of accepting the SWPB Blue Award on behalf of the college alongside Assistant Principal, Frances Italia. As many students and parents will know, a transformation has been taking place at the college where we have been implementing SWPB practices that has resulted in an extremely calm and orderly learning environment. This is a credit to all of the work that has been going on behind the scenes to implement SWPB practices and particularly to our students in how well they have responded to this. This Blue Award acknowledges the progression we have made as a college and our efforts in implementing consistent, evidence-based behaviour support practices. Further information about SWPB at Koo Wee Rup Secondary College can be found on our website.
House Competition - Athletics Day and Music Festival
In week one of this term, we had a very successful House Athletics Carnival at Casey Fields. Individual champions are listed on a page later in this newsletter. Congratulations to everyone involved and to Bass, who took out overall honours. In Week 3 of this term, we had our 57th Annual Leonie McGinley Music Festival. It was a great evening with plenty of outstanding performances. Again, Bass came out with the win and Year 12 students created an upset with their performance to win the staff versus students event. Well done to all students, staff and volunteers involved.
ANZAC Day
On April 25th, our Koo Wee Rup Secondary College marching band proudly took part in the ANZAC Day Parade in the city, marking their 26th consecutive year of participation. Led by our College Captains, the band was honoured to continue their tradition of leading the 39th Battalion in the march.
Well done captains and KWRSC marching band!
Parent Teacher Interviews
On Tuesday, the 6th May, we ran our Parent Teacher Interviews. We had a 31% increase in the number of families that attended the event compared to this time last year and it was pleasing to hear about the productive conversations occurring between families and staff. We know that successful learning and growth of students is fostered when there is a productive partnership between the college, families and the students. Thank you to staff and families for the success of the day.
Upcoming Exams and Semester Changeover
As we move to the later part of this term, many of our Year 10-12 students will be undertaking exams. We wish them the best of luck and look forward to our semester 2 changeover beginning in Week 9 of this term (16th June).
