Rainbow's End Performance
Our Year 12s engaged in a workshop from Eagle’s Nest Theatre, where the troupe explores scenes from the year 12 English text “Rainbow’s End”. A First Nations play, set in Northern Victoria, the theatre company had proud Noongar Kunai Gunditjmara woman Cherryl engage the students in language, song, dance, and cultural stories to deepen their understanding of the impacts of Colonisation on First Nations People.
The Theatre company then directed groups of students to act out the scenes, encouraging audience participation. The group lead the students through deep analysis of the scenes to extend their thinking for their first English SAC coming up.
The year 12s and the English team say a big ‘Nyatne’ (thank you in Wadawurrung Language) to Eagle’s Nest Theatre, in particular to Cherryl who shared her personal and moving stories of her experiences of the Stolen Generations.
Year 12 Environmental Science - Werribee Zoo
On the 17th February, our year 12 Environmental Science students had the opportunity to visit the Werribee Zoo and participate in a sampling and data collection program, monitoring the habitats for the endangered Eastern Barred Bandicoot.
Along with this, students got to explore and experience all the incredible animals the conservation zoo has to offer, from gorillas to lions and even the new elephants! With this came the safari tour, where they got to witness rhinos and giraffes wander around them only metres away.
It was an amazing day and a great learning experience.
Year 9 Food Technology
Our Year 9 students made a Heston Blumenthal Recipe where the senses are tricked into thinking you are eating a flower pot.
Over two sessions the student made a flourless chocolate mud cake which was dehydrated to make the chocolate soil, then placed on top of a tiramisu filling and garnished with mint leaves to look like a mint pot plant!
VCE Art Making & Exhibiting & Top Design Excursion
VCE Art students visited both the NGV Australia and the NGV International to delve in to the world of an art curator.
On each of their guided tours in the galleries, the students engaged with First Nations art as well as international creatives. They were challenged to consider the contextual links between the vastly different time periods and select artworks, to think carefully about the layout and the curatorial intentions of the spaces and to notice the changes made by the NGV team to amplify key themes.
It was great to see so many students asking thoughtful questions and applying their classroom knowledge in a real-world setting. Students will now use this practical experience to inform their assessments back at school.
Year 9 Fashion Design
The year 9 Fashion Design class has successfully completed their first sewing task of shorts! Most students completed sleep shorts.
This year they have all showed such growth in their skills. They will next get to design their own shorts as a drawing task and then a heat pack.
These students will have the opportunity to take on VET fashion or Product Design and Technologies in future year levels to take their skills and knowledge to the next level.
