Lent at St Joseph's 2026
Today our school acknowledged the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday. Stage 2 & Stage 3 attended the parish mass to receive their ashes. The younger students came together in the hall for a liturgy to receive their ashes.
What is Lent?
Lent is a special 40-day season in the Catholic Church that begins on Ash Wednesday and leads us to the joy of Easter. It is a time for us to slow down, reflect, and grow closer to God. By practicing prayer, fasting, and almsgiving (acts of charity), we mirror the 40 days Jesus spent praying in the desert. For our families, Lent isn't just about "giving something up"; it’s a beautiful opportunity to "clear the clutter" from our hearts, focusing on kindness and gratitude as we prepare to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus.
What do we do at St Joseph's school for Lent?
For Lent this year we continue to support Caritas Australia with Project Compassion. It is the biggest charity in the Southern Hemisphere. Each child will be bringing home a Project Compassion box for any monetary donations. These will be collected before the end of term 1.
