Jesus said “You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavour, how will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill can’t be hidden. Neither do you light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house.
Even so, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
Summary
In this Gospel, Jesus tells people that they matter and that they have an important role in the world.
Jesus uses two simple examples:
Jesus is saying that his followers should make the world better by the way they live. When people are kind, fair, and loving, they show others what God is like. Jesus reminds us not to hide our goodness, but to let it be seen so that others can be helped and encouraged.
