Wellbeing

This week, St Margaret Mary’s has been focusing on the character strength of kindness. Kindness is a powerful quality that not only makes others feel valued but also creates a positive ripple effect throughout our community. A simple smile, a helping hand, or a heartfelt “thank you” can spread far beyond the moment in which it is given.
Much like the ripples formed when a pebble is dropped into a pond, one small act of kindness can inspire many others. These acts, no matter how small, have the potential to touch more lives than we may ever realise.
At the heart of true kindness is intention. As a Catholic community, we look to Jesus as our greatest role model, showing us that kindness comes from the heart and is given freely—not for recognition or reward, but because it is the right thing to do. When we act with genuine kindness, we help to create an environment where everyone feels safe, valued and cared for.
As part of our Kindness focus, students have brought home an item to contribute to our kindness display on the LARC doors—either a flower, bee or butterfly. This activity is linked to the homework grid for students in Years 1–6 and has been sent to kindergarten families via Compass. Students are invited to add a picture, word, sentence, idea or quote that reflects kindness towards others. These items should be returned with homework on Monday, 2 March.
Each fortnight, a character strength will be explored and highlighted as a whole-school focus. This fortnight, we will continue to focus on the theme of kindness. Throughout the school, posters will be displayed to support students’ understanding by clearly outlining what this character strength looks like in action.
We hope families have noticed a little extra kindness shining through at home this week. It is a wonderful reminder that kindness is a gift we give freely, with the power to brighten someone else’s day. Together, let us continue to nurture and celebrate kindness within our school community.
