Systemic Knowledge & SEL

Systemic Knowledge

This term, we begin new learning with the introduction of Systemic Knowledge units. These will have great links to our Literacy work too.

This term Grade 5 will be learning about:  Food and Fibre - Sustainable Systems, as part of Technology and Growing and Change, as part of Health & Human Biology. These will link beautifully to their serial read, ‘War Horse’ by Michael Michael Morpurgo.

Grade 6 students will be learning about: Law and Governance as part of our Civics unit and Anthropogenic environmental change as part of our Geography unit. We will be reading a novel titled ‘There’s a Ghost In My Suitcase’ by Gabrielle Wang, and linking this to our Writing which will be a persuasive piece.

This is a term of new beginnings, changes, setting expectations, building relationships, and establishing routines that will empower our students to be active partners in their learning.

SEL

This term, we will continue with the updated Respectful Relationships units.

The Respectful Relationships program is age appropriate, researched based and supports schools and early childhood settings to promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.

Using the RRRR Program and our Open Parachute units, we will be allocating time throughout the week to help build positive social interactions across the school community.
