Our Lenten Journey

This week, our Senior and Junior students in LS2 took part in a moving journey through the Stations of the Cross, led by Father Fabian.

As they walked through the stations set up around our school, they prayerfully reflected on Jesus’ final moments, showing deep reverence and understanding of this important Lenten tradition.

Candle bearers led the way, adding to the solemn atmosphere, while our Senior students guided their Junior partners with care, setting a beautiful example of faith and leadership.

It was a truly touching experience, bringing our community together in prayer and reflection as we continue our Lenten journey.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their heartfelt participation. Thank you to our families for taking the time to join us on our pilgrimage of faith.

Learning Space 1 Juniors

In Learning Space 1, Clinic 2, we have been learning about Information Reports.

We have explored how to research a topic, sort information into key categories, and structure it into a clear and detailed report. This has helped us develop important skills in researching, organizing, and writing.

First, I made a poster of a Giraffe with information written on it. I then sorted the information into categories & wrote my Information Report – Balreen

I made a Giraffe poster with information.

I had to work out which category the information needed to go into.

I then used my information to write my report – Aalambir.

I wrote that a Giraffe is a mammal.

I wrote what they eat, what they look like and where they live.

Did you know that Giraffe’s are only found in the wild in Africa? – Micah.

Learning Space 1 Seniors

As part of our build up towards Easter, LS1 seniors have been busy looking at how this is a time for rebirth and regeneration.

In Peter’s Gospel he says:

Part of this is the story of Holy week. The students were given the task of writing a word that comes to mind from the following quote:

“Easter, the rising of Jesus from the dead, is about renewal and rebirth, the universal rhythm of darkness to light, Winter to Spring, death to new life.”

These are now on display in the foyer leading into the hall.

LS1 will also be taking part in the final assembly of the term, telling the story of the crucifixion of Jesus. Parents are very welcome to attend and see the students respectfully portray this key element of our Catholic faith.

SENIOR SPORT

The Hampton Park District have different schools in the district due to saving travelling time and more time can be spend in playing the sport instead of travelling.

The Hampton Park District comprise of the following schools:

St Kevin's Primary School,

Rivergum Primary School,

Hampton Park Primary School,

Coral Park Primary School,

Kilberry Valley Primary School,

Lynbrook Primary School,

Lyndhurst Primary School,

Trinity Primary School.

We don’t get to play all the schools, because there isn’t enough time during the semester.  However, there is a ladder which will determine who progresses to division play offs providing there is no Lightning Prem.

Today our Grade 5/6’s played against Kilberry Valley Primary School, both schools exhibit great sportsmanship towards each other.  We are very proud of students and I commend them on their competitiveness and respect to the other students.

The schools we are playing, dates and locations for these events are as follows:

  • Friday March 21st, Kilberry Primary School - Away Game.
  • Friday March 28th, Lynbrook Primary School - Away Game.
  • Friday May 2nd, Lyndhurst Primary School - Home Game.
  • Friday May 16th, Rivergum Primary School - Home Game.
  • Friday May 23rd, St Kevins Primary School - Home Game.
  • Friday June 6th, Coral Park Primary School - Away Game.

  • Tuesday June  17th, Winter Lightning Premiership

Venues for each sport are as follows for Lightning Premiership:

  • Soccer - Livingston Reserve
  • AFL 9’s - Livingston Reserve
  • Netball - Casey Stadium
  • Volleystars - Casey Stadium
  • Teeball - Casey Fields- Oval 3 (behind the Athletics Track)

For away matches and the Lightning Premiership students will travel to and from the venue via chartered bus with staff members attending.

BIKE EDUCATION

The students are cycling beyond the school premises. We primarily navigated the bike paths around Banjo Paterson.  I felt that they need to communicate the essential commands from the instructor to each other and understand them.

As they encountered pedestrians and fellow cyclists, the students demonstrated commendable conduct towards one another and the broader community. They adhered to all the safety protocols we had instructed them on and communicated effectively, ensuring that everyone enjoyed the cycling experience.

Furthermore, this will assist the students in developing confidence in their ability to anticipate various situations while riding their bikes.

The track will start behind LS2 and go along the side of the basketball courts, down the front of LS3 and LS1, around the rainbow playground and out the gate near the front of the school.

They will then run across the front of the school and through the gates near the hall, across the front of the hall and back to the oval.  Gates to the car park will be closed and there will be parents supervising along the track.

If parents need to enter the school they will need to use the pedestrian gate near the rainbow playground. Please use this gate only.

Parents who are attending to support their child, there will be a designated area for you to sit behind the Hall or behind LS2 near the sandpit. This is a great spot to view the start and finish of the races as well as the colour explosion.

Please feel free to bring chairs to sit on. We ask that parents remain in this area for the safety of our students.

There will be separate races for boys and girls in each age or grade level except the 8 year old race where girls and boys will run together. Students placing in the first ten will be awarded a ribbon and points for their House and those who are first in each race will have their names engraved on the perpetual school trophies that are kept in our trophy cabinet.

Students will be required to wear their sports uniform as they will be running, but we hope that they will wear a t-shirt that is in their house colour. They may also accessorise in their house colour. E.g. hair ribbons, socks, sweat bands, hair spray… They will also need to bring their drink bottle and hat and we suggest applying sunscreen in the morning before school.

Please also remember to update your child’s profile on Operoo and acknowledge the Operoo for your child to participate in Cross Country.

Students will then also participate in the Colour Explosion. Please ensure your child is wearing a t-shirt you don’t mind getting colour on, though from experience I can assure you the colour does wash off. Please remember to register your child online for the Colour Explosion and donate to Parents & Friends fundraising.

We will then have assembly after 1st lunch to announce the winning house and the winners for each race. Mini Vinnies will also make their pledge to join and receive their badges. Sliming of staff will also happen at the end of this assembly.

If there are any parents able to assist with the House Cross Country and have their Working with Children Check which is registered with the school, please contact Giuliana on gfaiola@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au or complete the section for parent assistance on the Operoo form.
