Principal's Report

Friday 14th March 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are now officially over half way through Term 1, Lent has begun and so has autumn!

Today it was a sea of green at St Joey’s with our school celebrating St Patrick’s Day earlier so we could celebrate mass with Fr Paddy.

A big thank you to Stage 2 and 3 for hosting the Mass today and Fr Paddy for celebrating it with his green hair! Mr Pratt and the choir did a wonderful job of the singing too.

Welcome BBQ

It was lovely to see so many families at the welcome BBQ and it was a lovely way for our new families to get to know one another. The children had a lot of fun playing together, especially with the parachute.

I would like to say a very special thank you to all the staff at St Joseph's who cooked and served the food, organised and supervised activities for the children and for being there on the night to mingle with our families.

Stage 3 and Kinder Singing for Seniors Week

Yesterday, our Stage 3 children and Kinder Buddies sang for the senior citizens of our community at the Junee Ex-Services Club for the 'Golden Harmony' Seniors Festival.

The children sang a repertoire of songs that truly brightened the day of all of those present and the children’s enthusiasm was outstanding. It’s these acts of kindness and community outreach that we pride ourselves on here at St Joseph’s. A big thank you to Mr Pratt for providing the music, Mrs Gardiner and Mrs Brady.

Harmony Day

Next Friday 21st March, we will be celebrating Harmony Day as a school. This National special day recognises and celebrates the country's many cultures and Indigenous Australians.

As a school, our families will be sharing their various cultures with us by performing song and dance at a special assembly starting at 1.45pm. This will be followed by our usual fortnightly award ceremony afterwards. All are invited to come and share in this special celebration.

School Advisory Council

We held our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday evening followed by the first Meeting for the year. The School Advisory Council is created at a school level to provide informed advice to the Principal of the school. At the AGM all positions were declared open and the existing members of the School Council have agreed to stay on with no changes to the current membership.

Our members are:

Fr Paddy Sykes (Ex-officio)

Mrs Amanda Riley (Secretary & Staff Member)

Mrs Lowana Sweeney (Chairperson)

Mrs Lisa Oliver, Mrs Sally Armstrong, Mr Michael Tracey, Mr Mark Halliburton and Mr Nick Wood.

I would like to thank the parents for their ongoing commitment to the School Advisory Council and appreciate their support and advice as we move into another school year.

Catholic Schools Week

From 24th - 28th March, all the schools in Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga will join all schools from around Australia in celebrating Catholic Schools Week. Our enrolment period for 2026 will open from this week onwards.

On Wednesday 26th March we will be having a whole school Mass from 9.30am -10.30am followed by Open Classrooms and then a whole school community morning tea from 11.00am -11.30am. We invite all families to be part of these special events and celebrate the joy of Catholic Education.

Thank you to Ivy Hunter who was a wonderful ambassador for our school when she went with me to meet the NSW Governor Margaret Beazley at the Junee Licorice and Chocolate factory.

Ivy was so excited to receive a special medallion from the Governor which she will treasure.

I hope you have a great weekend.

God Bless,

Angela Scott
