Careers

Hello Parents/Guardians and Community Members,
We are coming towards the end of term 1 and our Year 10 students should now be handing in their work experience forms to the careers office. All paperwork should be given to Mrs Ing by Friday 28th March so I can contact all host employers in time to sign off on the insurance for each student to go out on work experience.
Please see the summary of recent events and upcoming event details outlined below.
TAFE YES Program – Construction Update:
Our group of Year 10 students are making great progress on their resort chairs and look to be finished building these on the Friday 4th April. Parents and Carers will need to collect the finished projects from the Narrandera TAFE CRC carpark on this day or earlier if students finish them early. Please let us know if you will have difficulty getting these chairs home.
I have been very impressed by the fantastic work ethic, teamwork and respect each student has demonstrated while up at the TAFE campus. We cannot wait to see the finished chairs and take our final photos of the students sitting in them. We thank their TAFE Teacher Chris and as always, we wish to also thank Fee Smith for her tireless work and advocacy for our students.

Upcoming Events
YEAR 10 Work Experience – Week 11 Term 1 – 7th April – 11th April:
Please note that Year 10 Work Experience week will be held the last week of this term 7th-11th April. All students in year 10 are expected to try to source and attend work experience that week. I have spoken with most of the Year 10 students and have provided students with the information packs and forms as well as instructions on how to go about finding a placement.
All forms and placements are to be finalised by Friday 28th March so that I can complete the necessary correspondence and finalisation of the forms to ensure students are prepared, covered by insurance and are set up safely for their placement. Students can come see me in the careers office for further guidance if they need support.
UOW Visit – Postponed till term 2 – Senior Students:
We have postponed the UOW talk till next term for our Senior Students so that it did not clash with a major assessment task. Next term, Student Liaison officer at UOW – James Barton will be presenting to our senior students all things UOW, course and pathway options to Uni, what scholarships, internships, and will also go through the Early Entry application process and how to respond to the four key questions. Students are strongly encouraged to NOT submit their applications too early so that they can benefit from this talk with James.
Unserious Careers Visit – Wednesday 26th March – Senior Students:
Alana Kilmartin of Unserious Careers will be visiting our Senior Students to discuss how to navigate the first 5 years of your career, how to maximise your opportunities and some life lessons Alana has picked up in her career. Alana visited our school last term, while our Seniors were siting their exams, so we have asked Alana to come back to present to them her real world insights and knowledge.
TAFE YES Program – Hair & Beauty Term 2:
We are excited to hear, that our fabulous Fee Smith of TAFE has secured a Hair & Beauty TAFE YES Course to be run up at Narrandera TAFE next term. This course has proven to be very popular and is now full and we have taken names for a wait list. All students will need to obtain a USI to participate in this course. https://www.usi.gov.au/students/get-a-usi This will be a one day per week x 5-week course where students will attend each Friday for the five weeks.
All Careers Events:
All these opportunities are always announced to students at our morning assemblies, year meetings and in our newsletters. Any student or parent who has any questions in relation to these activities are welcome to contact the careers office for further information.
