Assistant Principal

Over the last 4 weeks, all classrooms at St Francis Xavier have been hives of activity and an excitement for learning - with all students settling well into their new class groups whilst building strong and meaningful connections with their peers and new teachers.

We have introduced a school wide approach called ‘The First 20 Days”

‘The First 20 Days’ strategy is a structured plan designed to build strong routines, foster a positive classroom culture, and establish clear expectations for learning and behavior right from the start.

The first 20 days of school are crucial in shaping the way students engage with their learning environment. By intentionally focusing on classroom routines, social-emotional learning and core academic skills, we create a supportive and structured atmosphere where all children feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

What Does This Look Like in the Classroom?

During these first few weeks, all teachers have:

✅Established daily routines that promote independence and confidence.

✅ Built strong relationships with students through community-building activities.

✅ Taught and reinforced positive behaviour expectations.

✅ Developed foundational literacy and numeracy skills.

✅ Fostered a growth mindset to encourage perseverance and curiosity.

This strategy ensures that every student understands what is expected of them and feels

comfortable and engaged in their learning journey. We believe that by investing time in these early weeks, we will create a learning environment where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Meet the teacher interviews

Thank you to all the parents who attended our Meet the Teacher Interviews this week. Your time, engagement and commitment to your child’s education are truly appreciated.

These meetings are an essential part of building strong home-school partnerships as they provide a valuable opportunity for open communication, shared insights and goal-setting to ensure that every child feels supported in their learning journey here at St Francis Xavier. Your involvement reinforces the message that education is a team effort and we are grateful for your collaboration.

Kindergarten families will have an opportunity to meet with their child’s teachers on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th of March. Information regarding booking appointments will be shared next week.

Looking forward to seeing you at the School Disco tomorrow night.

God bless,

Fiona
