Being Well at Magill

Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders

This past Monday, our Year Six student leaders had the incredible opportunity to attend the 'Dream and Lead' Youth Leadership Conference at the Convention Centre. This inspiring event brought together 1,000 aspiring young leaders from across South Australia to engage in discussions, listen to keynote speakers, and develop action plans for positive change in their communities.

The theme of the day, as reflected in the conference name, encouraged students to dream big and to find realistic, actionable steps to bring those dreams to life. Throughout the day, our students participated in interactive workshops and discussions designed to build their confidence and leadership skills.

A highlight of the event was the keynote speech by Nathan Strempel, who shared his journey of leadership, courage, and persistence. His powerful message reinforced to our students that they have the agency to make choices and shape their own leadership paths.

Additionally, students learned techniques to enhance their public speaking, including the effective use of body language, tone, breath control, and expression to better engage audiences. These skills will undoubtedly help them become more confident and impactful communicators.

Our student leaders were also introduced to a structured framework for creating meaningful change:

  • Identifying a problem

  • Recognizing opportunities to address it

  • Taking the first step toward a solution

Armed with this approach, they are eager to implement their ideas and initiatives at Magill School this year. We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and commitment to leadership and look forward to seeing their positive impact within our school community.
