Leadership Report

Hello everyone,
It’s often said that it takes a village to raise a child, and research shows just how true this is. A sense of belonging and connection to school is a vital part of a child’s academic success and overall well-being (Osterman, 2000). This connection fosters self-esteem, motivation, trust, pride, and a sense of acceptance – all critical for a child’s growth.
At Magill School, we are proud to create an environment where students feel connected and can actively contribute to our school community. The past two weeks have been a wonderful example of this! We recently hosted our first school tour, where Year 6 leaders played an important role in guiding prospective families through our school. Their knowledge of our school’s history and enthusiasm for all that Magill offers were widely praised.
Students take great pride in participating in projects that positively impact our school. Last week, the Student Action Team led our first whole-school class meetings of the year. These meetings highlighted the work students are doing to improve our school, which strengthens that important sense of belonging. Organizing and delivering these presentations across all 28 classes takes a lot of planning and teamwork, and they wouldn't be possible without the dedication of our staff. The feedback from teachers was incredibly positive:
• "Pavara did a fantastic job leading—what a solid leader!"
• "Evie and Talulah were great!"
• "They did a brilliant job."
• "Jarrah was fabulous at presenting the class meeting."
• "The kids did a really good job and were very pleased with themselves."
Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our parent volunteers. Many of the projects students engage in would not happen without your involvement. Whether it’s serving as a Governing Council Chairperson, participating on committees, helping on excursions, assisting in the classroom, covering library books, or any of the countless other contributions, we want to express our heartfelt thanks. Your support plays an essential role in making Magill School such a special place to learn and grow. We see and appreciate every minute of time you give.
As we head into the long weekend, let us also take a moment to celebrate International Women’s Day tomorrow, March 8. We celebrate women everywhere, but especially those in our own community who make Magill School the vibrant, welcoming place it is.
Thank you all for your continued support. Stay safe and enjoy the weekend!
Kind regards,
Erica Teumohenga
