Year 5 Camp

Our Year 5 Campers return today from a wonderful three days at the Great Aussie Bush Camp in Kincumber. Students enjoyed the opportunity to participate in a range of activities including the giant swing, raft building, pioneering and wading their way through the river. The camp was a great opportunity for students to solidify budding friendships, and to continue to expand their network as their activity groups were made up of boys from across the seven classes. We hope that all students enjoy their well-earned rest day tomorrow, and we look forward to hearing about their adventures on Friday. Thank you to Mr Cooper and the Year 5 teachers for their leadership and support of our students.

6 Black Class Spotlight

In our 6 Black literacy groups, one of our rotations is independent reading and vocabulary. During this activity we read a novel relative to our Lexile and jot down new, strong and interesting vocabulary writing definitions for each new word then using those words we create an interesting paragraph.  (Hunter V)

In Science, we are learning about space. To me, the Science Itinerary task was very engaging, as it allowed me to research many planets and explore new worlds. It also blended Mathematics in with the calculations of speed and distance.  (Harrison T)

In class we have been doing a Behind the News (BTN) video and response every week. I think these videos are very beneficial towards my learning. These videos are linked to something we are learning about in class and explains the topic in a clear way. Overall, these videos expand our learning. (Victor A)

Writing in Stage 3

This fortnight’s Writing Revolution focus has been sentence expansion. Students have revised work around conjunctions, starting with because, but, so, before moving onto some more complex examples. This is an important skill for writing as it helps to:

  • develop complex sentences

  • expand writing

  • assess ability to use new vocabulary

  • enhance reading comprehension.
