Classroom News

Please see the classroom news below. Some fantastic experiences are happening in our classrooms; we hope you enjoy reading about them.

Kindergarten

WOW. How are we at the end of Term One already? It has been such an amazing term of growth and development for our little darlings. Learning so many important skills, especially with our social and emotional development. It has been wonderful to get to know all of the Kindergarten students and their wonderful families. Our last Wild Space adventure for the term was certainly a wild one. We put on our puddle suits and we certainly really tested them out as we had a massive downpour. So much fun! We have been busily preparing for Easter and celebrating the wonderful time of year that it is. Our Easter highlight was certainly making our Easter baskets and then having a special hunt to fill them with chocolates! Hoppy Easter everybody.

Year One

What a busy end to the term! Mrs Gouldthorp and the Year One class were thrilled to see each other again after a couple of weeks, and got straight into finishing units and completing assessments in Humanities, English and Mathematics. The children have all made super progress with their writing and number work, in particular. The last few turns in the class Entomology Lab have been taken and scientific knowledge of the different features of animals has been shared. The class has been excited to complete some secret Easter activities, in between working, and everyone was eagerly awaiting the big event of the term – the Easter Hat Parade! As if that wasn’t enough, the students also looked forward to taking part in the Whole School Cross Country Carnival. I bet even the Easter Bunny couldn’t catch up with the Year Ones!

Year Two

Last week was a big week for Year Two! We finished up our Technology unit with some incredible dragon traps built at the Wild Space on Thursday afternoon. It was fantastic to see the creativity, problem solving and teamwork that went into all the creations. Most exciting of all was our incursion to see Dr Mitrovski in the Secondary School science lab, where we got to explore combining and separating different materials and helped create some really cool reactions. Below are some of the students' favourite parts from the afternoon.

I enjoyed when he poured the water in the cups and it turned green because of the chemical reaction. - Elleanor-Grace

I liked magnets because I liked picking up the nails. - Ralph

I enjoyed the elephant’s toothpaste because it exploded in the beaker and went flying. - Sofia

My favourite part from Science was shaking the sieve and looking at the different layers. - Sebastian P

Year Three

Year Three has truly enjoyed the final week of Term One, wrapping up our units of work with some fun hands-on learning. For Science, we mined (and ate a little) chocolate chip biscuits as we discovered how minerals are mined. Whilst Harry and Wes proved they are the most efficient in cost per hour, their environmental damage meant that they would be unlikely to secure employment in Australia and their attempts to rehabilitate their chocolate chip biscuits kept us all entertained. Athena, Ayla, Denvah, Max and Phoebe on the other hand have a future in environmentally friendly mining (or even as steady-handed surgeons), extracting chocolate chips whilst keeping their biscuit in one piece! For Technologies, students wrote branching algorithms to create fairy-bread – factoring in decisions like gluten free or not, squares or triangles, whole or in half, coloured or one colour, suddenly realising how many decisions their parents have to make just to prepare a meal. We learned about the Christian symbols of Easter and are now eagerly awaiting the arrival of Easter Eggs on Sunday – a symbol of new life like Jesus rising.

Year Five

The students have continued their stellar journey through their inquiry presentations and, safe to say, this project has truly taken off into another galaxy! 🚀✨ With speeches polished and cakes devoured, we’ve now entered full performance mode … and the results have been nothing short of astronomical!

Tuesday’s showcase had us seeing stars with a lineup bursting with songs, props and dazzling light displays. Sasha, Joel and Macca rocketed in with Titan, while Harriet and Aila gave Pluto the spotlight it deserves (proof that even “dwarf” planets can deliver giant performances!). Raine and Ruby brought things back down to Earth – literally − with a presentation full of sights, songs and fun, and Lizzie wrapped things up in a blaze of glory with a comet that truly streaked across the stage!

By Thursday, things only got brighter (and a little sassier!) with face paint, science flair and even 3D printed creations entering the orbit. Hannah, Pippa and Kendra made waves with Neptune; Poppy and Carter took us on a lunar journey with Earth’s Moon; and Ellie and Evie brought the heat − and plenty of brilliance − with their radiant presentation on the Sun.

Each group has continued to raise the bar to stratospheric heights, combining creativity, confidence and curiosity in every performance. A massive thank you once again to the families for your ongoing support in helping these incredible projects come to life; we couldn’t have done it without you!

Next, we prepare for the grand finale… the intergalactic buffet! Stay tuned as our final round of presentations promises to be a truly cosmic celebration! 🌌🍰

Year Six

We have enjoyed a busy last week finishing off our Federation unit and continuing to develop our understanding of what a Science question looks like and how to pose a hypothesis. The Interhouse Cross Country was a fun way to end the term and we are all looking forward to a relaxing holiday before an eleven-week term.
