Foundation - Year 2
students have been learning how stories work and how pictures can help us understand what is happening. They have practised looking closely at illustrations to make predictions, talk about ideas, and help plan their own writing.
Â
Students have also been learning how to organise their ideas using a clear structure, beginning, middle and end. Theyâve enjoyed retelling familiar stories and creating their own, making sure their ideas are in order and easy to follow.
Â
More recently, students have started to notice what authors do to make their writing interesting. They explored things like repeating words, adding describing words, and using sound words and then had a go at using these in their own writing.
Â
It has been fantastic to see students growing in confidence and giving things a go as readers and writers. We are so proud of their effort and the progress they have made this term!
Â
Students have been developing their understanding of numbers and how they work. They explored how numbers are made using tens and ones, helping them to read, build and represent numbers with confidence.
Â
Students also learnt how to order numbers from smallest to largest by using place value, rather than guessing. They practised explaining their thinking, using language like tens and ones to show how they knew which number came first.
Â
More recently, students have been introduced to the number line, learning that numbers have a specific place and follow a clear order. Through hands-on activities, they practised placing numbers in the correct position, counting forwards and backwards, and using what they know about tens to help them estimate where numbers belong.
Â
It has been fantastic to see students growing in confidence as they build, order and place numbers, while explaining their thinking along the way. We are so proud of the effort students are putting into their numeracy learning!
Â
In wellbeing, students have been developing important skills to support both their learning and their relationships with others. A strong focus has been on listening, with students practising how to follow instructions, respond to what they hear, and understand why listening is so important for learning.
Â
Students have also been building their teamwork and cooperation skills through a range of fun, hands-on activities and games. They learnt how to work with others, communicate clearly, encourage their peers, and keep trying when things didnât go to plan.
Â
It has been wonderful to see students supporting one another, showing patience, and working together in positive ways. These skills are so important in helping our students feel safe, connected and ready to learn.
