Child Safety and Wellbeing

New Social Media Regulations - SchoolTV Resource

SchoolTV have published a special report focusing on the new social media regulations.

These new regulations provide an opportunity to talk openly with your child about their online experiences and what these changes mean for them. It's also a chance to review family technology habits, reinforce healthy routines, and explore age-appropriate ways for young people to connect, learn and express themselves.

This Special Report explains what the new laws mean in practice and offers practical guidance to help families prepare for the upcoming changes.

Child Safe Information

St Brigid’s College holds the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility. Central to the mission of our Catholic schools in Horsham – St Brigid’s College and Ss Michael & John’s Primary School - is an absolute commitment to fostering the dignity, self-esteem and integrity of children and young people and providing them with a safe, supportive and enriching environment to develop spiritually, physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially.

Empowering children and young people improves child safety.  Children and young people are more likely to speak up when they feel respected and confident that they will be heard.  Children and young people benefit from strong friendships; they often see their friends as their main source of support, information and advice, and will go to them for help.

Our school wellbeing and peer programs are designed to strengthen relationships between students as well as their social connections within communities.  Our school has designated Child Safety Officers, and all our staff encourage our students to talk openly and raise concerns about the safety or wellbeing of their friends.

Join headspace's free online group chat covering support around navigating young people's growing independence.

As young people grow, their needs and interests can change. They may start exploring new spaces, learning more about themselves, and taking on new experiences.

Over time, this can also shape how much independence they seek. For carers and parents, navigating these changes can involve finding a balance between supporting a young person’s development while also helping them stay safe and on track.

Join the conversation in headspace's free online text-based group chat to connect with other adults and explore strategies for supporting a young person as they develop greater independence.
