Year 1 & 2

Our students have been very excited all year about our Year 1 Milo and Movie night and Year 2 Sleepover. Last week the wait was finally over!

Year 1 Milo and Movie Night

The students arrived at the gym at 6:30 pm and were signed in by their parents. Many fun games were played in the gym, such as Kree, Kree Bongo, Octopus, and some co-operative team games.

We then swapped with the Year 2s, and we went to the BER. We looked into the classrooms and saw that the Year 2 students had set up their beds already! It was nearly time to watch our movie, it was "Sing"! While we were watching the movie, we could also colour and draw. Supper was Milo, biscuits, and fruit. It was delicious! Then it was time to go home. It was such a fun evening.

Year 2 Sleepover

The night had finally arrived, and we had been talking about it for weeks! Our parents helped us set up our beds. We had mattresses, pillows, doonas, sleeping bags, and of course our teddies! After playing games, we also watched the movie "Sing" and had supper. After we read a story, it was time to brush our teeth and go to bed. It took a little while for us to fall asleep, but eventually we all did. Before we knew it, it was morning and time to get dressed and go home. It was a truly great experience, and we are very proud of all our students for participating.

Literacy

Our author study is coming to an end. The students have loved sharing the many Mem Fox books we have read together. Mem Fox is an Australian author living in Adelaide. She has published over 45 children’s picture storybooks. Her first book, Possum Magic, was published in 1983! The books we have read include "Possum Magic", "Hatty and the Fox", "The Magic Hat", "Shoes from Grandpa", "Koala Lou", "Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge", "Where’s the Green Sheep", "I’m Australian Too"…and the list goes on! The students have enjoyed comparing the stories, looking at who the illustrators are, and how the images were created. They have used the stories they read as inspiration for their writing.

Maths

This week, we have been focusing on Capacity. We have had fun exploring the capacity of containers using rice and water. We were comparing objects by using teaspoons and cups, estimating how many we thought, then testing our predictions.

Celebrating our Students

Students are nominated by their teachers to receive a certificate of acknowledgment. The below students' certificates will be presented at our next assembly.
