Around Our Level

This week in Literacy our Prep students have been learning about diagraphs ('ck', 'sh', and 'th'). We have introduced the heart words ('what'/'have'/'says'/'goes'/'your'). We have commenced Dibels testing and assessments and undertaking letter recognition testing. In Writing, the children have been practising their weekly recounts about the weekend, sequencing cut and paste activities, completing weekly dictation tasks, and learning more about author Eric Carle, including texts "Hello, Red Fox", "10 Little Rubber Ducks" and "The Mixed Up Chameleon". In Writing, our focus has been on capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops.

In Maths, we have been learning about ordinal numbers (first to tenth) and ordinal numbers to 20. We have practised lining up in our ordinal numbers (alphabetical roll order).  We even made paper planes and flew them down the corridor to see which came first, second, and third. For our applied maths, we have been learning about capacity and comparing different sized objects and containers using rice scoops. This week we have been learning about position words, such as 'on', 'behind', 'behind', 'beside', 'under', 'between', and 'in'.

In Geography, we have been learning about artefacts from the past and have enjoyed looking at photos and heirlooms. Mia’s grandma has had an amazing collection of old telephones, cameras, sewing machines, and balance pans to share with the class.

Our “Me in a Bag’ presentations are going very well. Our students have been well prepared and we are enjoying learning more about our classmates' interests and hobbies. They have been practising using a loud and confident voice, using eye contact when speaking to an audience, and being an attentive audience.

A big thank you to all our wonderful PMP helpers this year. We only have one more PMP session for the year. We look forward to seeing you for our last one. It will be so much fun. Our students have shown improvement with their throwing and catching skills, balance, skipping, and hula hooping this year.

Last week we also enjoyed using our outdoor learning space, which includes a sandpit, raised garden beds, and play area. As the weather improves, we are so fortunate to be able to use this flexible learning space as an extension of our classrooms.
