Principal's Report

by Jane Capon

Principal Report

Every four years, all Victorian government schools undergo a comprehensive school review. This review determines the effectiveness of the school and develops a strategic plan that sets the focus work for the next four years. An independent reviewer, along with principals from other schools, and including the school council president, myself and Michael, take time to analyse school data, and talk to staff, students and parents.

The reviewers will be available to speak with parents on Tuesday 11th November, towards the end of the school day. Please put this date in your calendar, as we would love as many parents as possible to give feedback to the review panel. If you would like to be included, please register your attendance at the office. Interpreters can be organised for this session. If you have any questions, or would like an alternative time, please don’t hesitate to contact me in the yard or at Jane.Capon@education.vic.gov.au

Sport achievement of the week

We know how important physical activity and sport is for our students and to our school community, which is why we privilege time at school for PE and sport. We also know that we have some very talented students who participate in sports and activities outside of school. We would love to celebrate their achievements! If your child has received an award or progressed to the next level of their activity outside of school, please let us know and we would love to celebrate their achievements in our newsletter. Please let our PE teacher Nick Fergus know, or email through to our school office on albany.rise.ps@education.vic.gov.au

Family Bingo Night

We are very much looking forward to our Family Bingo night afterschool at 4.30pm on Thursday 6th November. There will be lots of fun for all – Bingo, a silent auction (apparently, the principal’s car space is up for bids?) Tickets are $20 per family or $10 per person and can be purchased by emailing albanyrisepa@gmail.com Come along, raise money for our fabulous school and join in the fun – I am looking forward to meeting you all!

Free Dress Birthdays

It is so important for students to be at school every day. Attending school every day means experiencing what counts – the learning, friendship, fun and opportunities that can shape your child’s future.

We understand that there are times when your child will need to miss school but to ensure minimal disruption to their education, please consider scheduling family holidays or medical/dental appointments outside of school time. If your child is well enough to attend but is worried about friendships, schoolwork or exams, please let us know and encourage them to come to school. Avoiding school can make these feelings worse and can create a negative pattern of behaviour.

Some students find it difficult to come to school on their birthdays, however, we want them to be here and enjoy the day with their classmates. From now on, at Albany Rise PS, a child can come to school in free dress on their birthday! It makes the day special for them (and we can easily tell who is having a birthday and celebrate with them!)

Day for Daniel

On Friday 31st October, we welcome all students to wear red clothing to school to honour

Daniel Morcombe for the official Daniel Day, which focuses on child safety and provides resources for “Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson”. This works on educating children around safety in their physical and online environments. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions around the content of this lesson. More information can be found at The Daniel Morcombe Foundation | Keeping Kids Safe

World Teachers’ Day

Next Friday 31st October is also World Teacher’s Day. We know that we have incredible teachers at ARPS, and this is a time for us to stop and reflect on the work they do – above and beyond – for the benefit of our amazing students. We will be making sure that our teachers know how valued they are next Friday.

Enrol Now for Foundation 2026!

If you have a child starting Foundation, we still have limited places available. Please contact the office for more information. As we have commenced our transition to school program, please ensure any new students are enrolled as soon as possible so they don’t miss out.

REMINDER: At school, students must wear hats when outside!

As we are now in Term 4, all students are required to wear hats outside at school. The UV rating is now high enough to cause skin damage every day. Please ensure that your child brings their school, SunSmart hat to school every day. We also encourage other SunSmart measures, such as sunscreen and sunglasses.

Thank you!

Planning for 2026 – Are you leaving ARPS?

We ask that you let us know if you are moving or have enrolled to another school in 2026. We require this information as soon as possible to establish classroom structures for the start of the new school year. If your child is currently in F-5 and will not be at

ARPS in 2026, please notify the school office or email as soon as possible.

Thank you!
