Prep Learning Reflection

This newsletter will also include an update and some amazing pictures from our exciting end of Term 3!
At the end of Term 3, we had been working on Unit of 10 of SoundsWrite as part of our phonics program. This unit works on five letter words with which blends consonants at both the beginning and the end of the word. Such as, ’smelt’, ‘print’ ‘spend’. In Reading, worked on non fiction features such as glossaries and bolded words, the index. In Writing, used our knowledge of non fiction texts to begin constructing our own animal fact book!
We were visited by two performers who did a live treasure hunt performance as a celebration of book week!
We also had an incredible Spanish Fiesta where we learnt about Chilean culture. We learnt about traditional dancing, foods and sport and made some clay pottery!
In Numeracy, we’ve been introducing addition fact fluency, learning about 3D shapes and continuing our work with 2-digit numbers too!
We had an amazing time last week during our swimming week. The students did an incredible job being safe, listening to their instructors and having fun.
This first fortnight of Term 4 we were busy right away diving into our learning areas. For Reading and Writing, we have been focusing on the text 'Giraffes Don't Dance'. We've explored some vocabulary words like 'elegant', 'splendid' and 'miracle', have revised the structure of narratives and have been learning about sentences and fragments.
For our Phonics lessons, we've begun learning common sounds that are represented by 2 letters. So far we've learnt the 'sh' and 'ch' sounds!
In Numeracy we have been learning about subtraction, mass and have introduced sorting objects to create data displays. We're also doing daily addition fluency practice!
In Unit of Work, we've introduced the design process and have explored what engineers are.
In SEL, we've been doing activities from the RRRR (Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships) topic 'Problem Solving' and have also been working on 'Learning, Motivation and Growth Mindset' with the Open Parachute program.
