Week 1 & 2 Updates
We’ve jumped straight into Term 4 with lots of excitement in the music room! All classes have been researching and choosing their song and dance for the end of year concert.
It’s always a fun (and sometimes tricky!) process making sure everyone is happy with the final choice, but the students have shown great teamwork and creativity. I can’t wait to share their performances with you later this Term.
Students have also been getting back into the music program, beginning to explore music notation and songwriting. It’s wonderful to see their confidence growing as they build on their skills and express themselves through music.

Our girls Basketball team has won their regionals round match against Mother of God 18 -12. It was an incredible display of talent and sportsmanship by both teams and Sunshine Heights go through to the next round of interschool sport.
Sunshine United Cricket Club have a Blast Try Out Day on Sunday 26th of October. It's free to join just register on the QR code below.

Looking ahead, our Year 3–4 students will begin their swimming program in November, Grade Prep - 3 Sport's Day Friday the 21st of November and our Year 5–6 students can look forward to an exciting Surf Lifesaving Day at Altona Beach in December.
We are ready to begin the last term of the school year!
During these first two weeks, Spanish lessons have been full of games, songs, and interactive activities to review and consolidate key vocabulary while keeping students engaged and motivated.
Prep: Students have been revising animals through songs, interactive games, and hands-on activities. They practised spelling and writing the words using markers on their whiteboard tables, which helped reinforce recognition and pronunciation in a fun way.
Grades 1–2: We’ve reviewed familiar topics and practised spelling through games such as Hangman and Word Scrambles. These activities have helped students gain confidence in identifying and writing Spanish words.
Grades 3–4: This fortnight, students have started exploring the parts of the body in Spanish through songs, movement-based activities, and visual games that support vocabulary retention and correct pronunciation.
Grades 5–6: Students have focused on consolidating vocabulary and improving their spelling and writing skills through Draw and Guess and Hangman. These games encouraged teamwork and supported vocabulary recall in a fun and collaborative way.
Across several grades, we’ve also played Bingo and Number Soccer to review essential content such as numbers. It's been a fun way to keep everyone practising together!

Wow! Can you believe it’s already Term 4?
Time has certainly flown by!
To kick off the term, our Grade 6 students have been busy designing and creating their very own mural. It’s bright, vibrant, and captures a truly inspiring message that celebrates their primary school journey. During Week 1, they brought their designs to life working with an extremely talented artist Shannon Lamden and the result is absolutely stunning! Be sure to check it out in the hallway leading to the STEM room, we’re all so proud of their incredible work.
As we head into our final term of the year, there’s lots of excitement in the art room as we prepare for our Big Art Show, opening Thursday, 4th December (Week 9). This will be the first art show I’ve coordinated, and while I’m both excited and a little nervous, I can’t wait to see everything come together. The students have already produced so many wonderful pieces, and it’s going to be a fantastic celebration of their creativity!
Some parents have asked when students will be bringing their artwork home. At the end of the year, students will be creating their own art portfolios, which will include all their work from throughout the year. These will go home after the Art Show. I highly recommend that you go through their portfolios with him and even frame a few they make the BEST gifts too.
Lastly, as we prepare for the show, I’d love some helping hands! On Friday 7th of November (Week 5) and Friday14th of November (Week 6), I will be holding ‘Framing Fridays’ from 2:00pm in the art room to help frame student work. If you’re available, your help would be greatly appreciated.
During Art Show Week, I’ll also be looking for volunteers to assist with set-up on
Monday 1st, Tuesday 2nd, and Wednesday 3rd December.
Even an hour or two of your time would make a huge difference and be so appreciated! More information will be shared soon.
What a busy few weeks it has been in the art room!
So many wonderful artworks have been developed and explored. I am very proud of all the students as we come into the first 2 weeks of term four.

Preps
Over the last few weeks, students have been transforming glass jars into lanterns by layering colourful tissue paper. Along the way, they practised different techniques and learnt new skills. They also began exploring mosaic tiling, learning where, how, and why it is used before producing their own versions with paper tiles to form shimmering flowers. In addition, the Preps have started painting our “creek” feature, which will run through the art show.

Grades 1/2
Students enjoyed constructing bee hive sculptures, using real pasta as part of their designs. This task involved multiple steps and materials, and they all did a fantastic job. They then moved on to naturalist painting, inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s famous Sunflowers. Using real sunflower images, they focused on line, blending, and brushstrokes to guide their work.

Grades 3/4
Over recent weeks, students have been experimenting with symmetry, pattern, and colour to design quirky paper beetles, which will be hiding in the art show. They also worked with foil and clay to model small frog sculptures. Their designs showed great imagination and attention to detail.

Grades 5/6
Students explored a new art technique that was unfamiliar to most. Each chose an insect to sketch, then traced over their design with glue and string, creating a raised effect that brought their insects to life. They are now covering their string designs with foil to produce striking metallic artworks, stay tuned to see the finished results!
Grade 6’s incursion:

During the last week of term 3 student had the opportunity to work an amazing local artist named Lukas Kasper. Lukas specialise in painting large murals and facilitating public art projects of all shapes and sizes. His journey into art began in 2009 influenced by street art, graffiti and skateboarding culture. The motive behind his work focuses primarily on mental health, animals, and the environment. He employs a series of painting techniques and imaginative visuals to seamlessly merge these worlds, showcasing a unique display of his traditional street art stylings, adaptive colour usage, native flora and fauna and flowing bold line work. He has been fortunate enough to paint murals, exhibit my work, create designs for major corporations, complete artist residencies and facilitate creative workshops in various parts of the world including but not limited to: Australia, America, Canada, Indonesia, and Thailand. Students were highly engaged and enthusiastic throughout the session, asking many thoughtful and creative questions. Lukas was very impressed by their effort and the amazing creativity they demonstrated in their work. Keep an eye out for the students’ final pieces, which will be showcased in the upcoming Art Show. When reflecting on the incursion during last week’s class, many students shared that they found Lukas to be a truly inspiring person.
Thank you very much
