Principal's Message

Good afternoon all,
It has been a very busy start to Term 4! Our 125 year celebrations commenced with the commemorative ceremony and time capsule opening last Friday. It was wonderful to have five members of the Mercy order join us for this occasion. Sr Eileen Reardon worked at Sacred Heart school in the 70s and gave us an insight to school life at this time. The Mercy sisters started our school in 1900 and it was great to be joined by the sisters last Friday. Tony Hoskin, the principal in the year 2000 (when the time capsule was buried) spoke to us about his time at the school. He was later joined by Alison Fitzimmons who assisted him to open the time capsule and take out some of the items. Alison was in grade 6 in the year 2000 and her son Finn will commence with us next year. It was so lovely to witness what Sacred Heart means to many of our past students and staff who joined us for this celebration. Fr Michael Morley came back to Tatura to be part of the day. Parish priests had such an important role in leading Catholic schools in the not too distant past and it was wonderful to have him join us for this occasion - alongside Fr Uday who performed a blessing for all present. Ms Kate Fogarty, Executive Director of Catholic Education Sandhurst Limited, spoke to us at the conclusion of the ceremony endorsing all the good things that are happening in our schools at the present time. The leadership role of Catholic Education Sandhurst Limited has increased substantially in recent years and we were grateful to have Kate join us for this occasion.
At present our students are writing and making contributions to our 2050 time capsule. This will be buried on Friday November 6th, two days after our official 125th birthday! On this day we will have our assembly out the front of the school so we can incorporate putting the time capsule back into the bollard and sealing this for another 25 years. We welcome all parents to this assembly which will be at 2.30pm. Families are invited to make contributions to the time capsule. Your contribution needs to fit in an A4 envelope – these can be obtained at our office. Please have your contribution at the front office no later than the morning of Thursday 5th November.
It was very fitting that we held the Colour Run event last Friday also. This was a great way for our students and families to enjoy the festivities of our birthday celebrations! I am incredibly grateful for the support of the Colour Run committee who did a great job in leading the organisation of this event. I’d like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank Kate Wheelhouse, Kylee Dewis, Julie Murrell, Annie Morrison and Vanessa Tartaglia for their work on this committee. You were instrumental in leading a fun and enjoyable event for our school community! We raised $2,888 from this event. This is a good contribution to our sport courts refurbishment. I am extraordinarily grateful for
the provision of prizes for this raffle which came from donations from Leocata’s Transport, Reid Commercial Cleaning, the Morrison family, Fast Brew Coffee, Tatura Pharmacy, Mes Amour, Tatura promos and Logos, the school uniform shop Shepparton. The raffle raised $1776.
I am still seeking willing parents to chat with our review team next week. Please contact myself or the front office if you are able to have a chat with our review team. We welcome your input.
Blessings,
Carolyn
SCHOOL ACCOUNTS:
Accounts have been issued this week.
Families, who do not have a current Payment Plan in place , Fees are now overdue. Please remit by the end of October or alternatively contact Carolyn Goode to discuss.
STUDENT ATTENDANCE:
At Sacred Heart we expect and encourage 100% student attendance. We understand that there are some circumstances where your child needs to stay at home. Please be reminded that it is the parents' responsibility to notify school of any absence. The best way to do this is through PAM or by ringing the school at 8.30am. Unnotified absence requires follow up from the school as it is essential that we know where our students are each school day. If you receive a text, please follow this up by calling the school to let us know the reason absence. If no follow up is received then the school needs to make phone calls to parents which takes considerable time. We appreciate your support in this matter.
FEE CONCESSION FOR HCC HOLDERS
Families with a Health Care Card and would like to receive the CESL Fee Concession are reminded they need to commit to paying $520/student throughout the year - preferably by school organised Direct Debit or by arrangement. Please see Debbie in the office if you have any questions regarding this.
