Teaching & Learning Update

Our Teaching & Learning team is putting a strong focus on assessment and reporting, with particular attention to moderation this term. Moderation is when teachers come together to ensure that assessment standards are consistent and fair across all classes and year levels. This process helps us make sure that your child’s progress is accurately reflected in their reports.
You might wonder why this matters. When teachers moderate work together, we can be confident that the grades and feedback your child receives truly represent their achievements and growth throughout the year.
Parents will continue to receive updates on their child’s learning through Seesaw, where you can see examples of their work and progress. To support effective moderation and ensure high-quality teaching happens consistently in every classroom, we will be sharing only one Common Assessment Task (CAT) with a focus on Mathematics this term. This allows teachers to focus on that assessment together, promoting fairness and depth in the feedback your child receives. These tasks are a key part of our ongoing assessment process, helping us track student progress and plan future learning. We warmly encourage you to read your child’s posts and leave comments. Sharing a “1 star” (something your child has done well) and “1 wish” (something to work on) is a powerful way to support your child’s learning journey. Research shows that family engagement in student learning significantly boosts student motivation and outcomes, your involvement truly makes a difference.
We look forward to seeing you at family time next week. The great news is that there are many hands-on ways to engage with your child’s learning in everyday life at home as well. Playing games, having conversations, and exploring the world together are all powerful ways to build skills and curiosity.
Here are some easy, fun ideas to try at home:
- Play board games or card games that encourage problem-solving, memory, and strategic thinking.
- Read together daily and talk about stories to develop language and comprehension skills.
- Involve your child in cooking or baking, which builds math skills through measuring and following steps.
- Explore nature or local parks, asking questions and observing to spark curiosity and scientific thinking.
Encourage creative play like drawing, building, or storytelling to develop imagination and communication.
And importantly, help your child get a good night’s sleep. Sleep plays a vital role in memory, focus, and emotional wellbeing, all of which are essential for effective learning and growth.
Here’s to a positive and successful Term 4.
