'In a world where you can be anything, be kind.'
This term we run our Step Up Program to help support both students and parents prepare and transition to a new year level. Transition includes change in teacher, change in room and change in students in the class. We need to consider all the changes and prepare and empower our students in managing change. This program involves a four step process. This experience provides opportunities to meet new classmates and talk about the similarities and differences in their new grades as well as becoming familiar with a new physical learning environment.
Students have already begun visiting new learning spaces with the aim to familiarise them with the classroom environment and teachers have are also ensuring they hav incidental time with students to get to know them a little more. In the next step students will be given additional opportunities to mix with students in their existing and new year levels. Many of our students will be provided with additional transition support facilitated by our Wellbeing team. On the 5th December in their new class groups with their 2024 teacher.
Parents can also support this transition by talking positively to their children about the next stage of their learning journey. Engaging our children in the process empowers them to face the changes with confidence and gives them permission to accept the feelings and possible apprehensions that might arise along the way.
We know that providing a thoroughly planned transition is the best way to assist our students and ultimately reduce the amount of anxiety experienced and begin a new year feeling positive and secure.
