A Winning Spirit at The Dragon Classic

We're excited to share the fantastic news from The Dragon Classic, where our Year 6 teams showed off their basketball prowess and sportsmanship in a dazzling display of talent and teamwork!

Our girls' teams sparkled on the court, securing both first and second place in a fantastic double triumph. Not to be outdone, one of our boys' teams clinched an impressive second place, rounding out our success at this exhilarating tournament.

What truly set our students apart, however, was the exceptional level of sportsmanship and camaraderie they exhibited. The cheers were not just for our own victories, but for every great play, and high-fives echoed through the gymnasium, creating an atmosphere of genuine joy and respect.

We are delighted to report that some of our students took their sportsmanship to the next level by volunteering to score games. Our students supported not only their teammates, but also players from other schools. It's moments like these that make us beam with pride as teachers.

A heartfelt thank you to the parents who came out in full force to support our young athletes. Your presence and cheers created a positive atmosphere that fuelled our teams' success.

Taking our students to events like The Dragon Classic is always a pleasure, especially when they not only showcase their athletic talents, but also embody the values that make our school community truly special. Here's to the winning spirit of our incredible students and the joy they bring to our school!

Prep Chesterfield Farm Excursion

On Friday 3rd November, our Preparatory students visited Chesterfield Farm. This historical farm now operates as a children’s farm, allowing visitors to look after animals through 'hands-on' experience. The activities and animals provided much enjoyment as the Preparatory students were actively involved in animal feeding experiences, visiting the baby animal nursery and going on a tractor ride around the farm. The students also had the opportunity to learn about sheepdog work and were able to participate in cow milking. The Preparatory students had a fun-filled day at Chesterfield Farm and are looking forward to future excursions as they move through the school.

Year 1 MiniBoss Incursion

On Wednesday 15th November, Year 1 students worked together with Dan from MiniBoss to take on STEAM challenges. This complemented our Term 4 STEAM Inquiry, where students have been learning to plan, design, build, create and test their designs. Students made a Marble Run, a Machine and then a Robot. Designing and building with the resources they were provided. Overall, it was an awesome day for our Year 1 students, tying in with our Inquiry curriculum and providing a hands-on learning experience for all.

Well done, Year 1!

Disney Day at Chatham

On Thursday 9th of November, the Year 6 Junior School Councillors held a magical Disney Day. On this day, students were encouraged to dress-up in their favourite Disney character outfit and bring a gold coin donation to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation. This special charity supports children who are living with a life-threating illness, by providing them with a happy experience. For example, they might wish to visit Disneyland with their family or meet their favourite soccer player and the staff at the Make a Wish Foundation will try to make their wish possible. As a school, we managed to raise $296.50 through our Disney Day and it is wonderful to know that our money will assist in making a child’s wish come true.

As part of our day’s celebrations, we commenced with a magical whole-school parade in the School Hall. This was not just your average school parade though; this was different because we kicked off proceedings with an amazing performance to the ‘Mickey Mouse Club House’ theme song! We had practised for this event, so it was great to hear Mr Cotching say he liked it so much that he wanted us to perform it again! Following this, we showed a presentation of Disney Classic film titles. As each new classic popped up on our School Hall screen, a hit song from that film played. This is when each class had the opportunity to march around the Hall and show off their amazing costumes accompanied by an assigned Disney classic. We loved how the whole school joined in with singing the songs. All the students had heaps of fun and so did we! To end the day, we made fairy bread for our Year 5 and 6 classmates, which was great fun and delicious too! Please read our favourite aspects of Disney Day below:

“Our favourite part of Disney Day was doing the introductory dance and making fairy bread for Years 5 and 6” – Zara & Remy

“My favourite part was creating the giant pile of fairy bread!” – Rowan

“I really liked how everyone dressed-up, the parade and making fairy bread”. – Sam

“I enjoyed the parade of grades because it was fun seeing everyone’s costumes”. - Noah

“I really liked performing the song for everyone because it was very entertaining!” – Eddie

Kitchen Garden Experience

Hello, our names are Elizabeth and Mira. We are here today to talk about our incredible experience with the kitchen garden.

Mira: We started off getting into groups and each group had an amazing parent or teacher who had a different delicious and healthy recipe made from veggies and herbs in the garden. We made and tried lots of foods like flat bread with dip, salads, rice paper rolls and more. For dessert we had rhubarb muffins. I can tell you we all absolutely loved the food that was made!

Elizabeth: The 5ST class is extremely grateful for this amazing experience given to our class. We are very grateful for the teachers, parents, Ms Kirwan and Mr Cotching who made this day happen. It is just another thing that this school gives their students and we will remember this for the rest of our lives.

Both: Thank you so much for our time today. It was a mix of fun, deliciousness and memories.

On behalf of 5ST, thank you.
