Health and Physical Education

It has been a busy time in HPE in Terms 3 and 4.

In Secondary we have been focusing on different team sports. In Term 3 we practised and mastered the skills needed to play volleyball and then touch football. Students watched documentaries about athletes in these sports, and gained a good understanding of the rules and what is required to play these sports professionally. Students were encouraged to work with different students each week and the emphasis was on teamwork and doing your best. During Term 4 we have been focusing on hockey. This has been a rewarding experience and many students have surprised themselves on their skills and how much they have enjoyed the game. The rest of this term we will have rotations of different sports: basketball, badminton and soccer. We will end the year with a fitness test (beep test, flexibility and strength test). The students are encouraged to look at their results from the start of the year and to make goals on how they can personally advance and improve.

In Lower Primary we have been doing work on balancing, jumping, skipping, ball skills and working in groups. Students have also enjoyed dancing and movement activities. In Upper Primary we have been focusing on fitness challenges and have been playing the team sports of basketball and soccer. Primary students have also been involved in learn-to-swim and a gymnastics program. This term the students are busy getting ready for their athletics carnival; Primary (3-6) on 21 November at Gormley Park in Kingston, and Infant (K-2) on 22 November at the School Oval. We hope to see some parents there cheering on their children!
