In Week 1 we held our ELC to Year 2 Sports Day at the Western Youth Community Centre Oval with over 80 ELC students and 220 Foundation to Year 2 students from both campuses taking part in this significant event.
We began the day with the 'Health Hustle', performing the moves to The Nutbush with many of the spectators also joining in. Students then participated in nine different tabloid activities that covered all units of work from the curriculum, including a mini tramp jump, basketball and soccer dribble, an AFL kick and various running relay events. Following a brief break, students in Years 1 and 2 competed in a 70m sprint, Foundation students competed in a 50m sprint and the ELC students a 30m sprint.
Thank you to Student Leaders
Every participant gave their all for their team, showing determined effort and good sportsmanship. We would like to thank the following Senior School Student Leaders:
Arianna, Lucinda, Noah, Edna, Orlanzo, Shereem, Maansi, Niki, Natasha, the Year 6 Brooklyn Park leaders Georgeah, Niamh, Gracie, Kayla and Lieschen and the Year 6 South Plympton leaders Elijah, Megan, Diana, Eunice, Amelie, Eva, Angelina and Giovani who encouraged participants at each station all day.
At the conclusion of the carnival, classes and families stayed-on to enjoy a community picnic, re-establishing old and fostering new relationships with Emmaus families from both South Plympton and Brooklyn Park campuses. A big thank you to all the parents and family members who came to support our students during this memorable event.
Our Year 3-6 SACSA Basketball teams competed in day-long carnivals across Monday to Thursday of Week 2.
The standard of competition was high and our teams from both campuses did very well. They worked as a team, putting into practice what they had learned, finding out on the day how important perseverance and focus is.
Thank you to those who came out and supported our students. We look forward to seeing these students continue their sports journey!
Our Foundation to Year 7 H&PE classes have been taking part in Tennis lessons, working on various technical aspects through modified and full-court games.
Year 7 classes have been going off-site to Lockleys Tennis Club and working with old scholar Luka, of Head Start Sports. They have been learning about the importance of footwork and have been diligent, focused and disciplined. Students have experienced significant improvements in their performances and in turn have an improved self-confidence.
We look forward to seeing the number of students involved in Tennis continue to increase and have them involved in representative events in 2024.
Netball Development Program information is being sent out Week 3 of this term for 2024 Middle and Senior students.
