Happy Halloween!

DPS Cultural Celebrations

Happy Halloween to all our families who are celebrating on the 31st of October.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is Halloween? Did you know that Halloween is not actually a traditional American celebration!

It originated with the Celts and Gaelic people of Ireland, Scotland and Wales and was called Samhain (Sow in) meaning Summers end! When the Irish moved to America, they took the celebration with them!

They believed that spirits would come back into the human world on October 31st, and so they had many traditions to protect their families and crops. These included carving scary faces in turnips, bonfires, dressing up in scary outfits and leaving out treats to convince the spirits to leave their house alone!

And that’s where our traditions of dressing up, trick or treat and carving Jack-O-lanterns comes from!!

However you are celebrating, have a great night and don’t have TOO many treats 😉
