We had a great turnout for our Arts Show and Arts Day last week. Thanks to everyone who came to see the fantastic work our students have put together. A special thanks to Ms Emily and Ms Maria for their hard work organising this event and to the students for their hard work and creativity.
This week we wrapped up the last of our 'You Show Us' mornings. A big thank you to the parents who were able to join us and to our teachers for their flexibility and support in making these mornings happen. It's been a valuable experience having parents and carers in the classrooms seeing students' work. Given the slightly lower attendance this week compared to the first two mornings, we're planning to hold two mornings per term next year.
We're progressing well with class planning and allocations for the next year. In terms of learning spaces, we've decided to move our Year 5 and 6 students back to D-Block, leaving C-Block for our Year 3 and 4 students. We considered this change carefully, taking into account the needs of each affected cohort and the school as a whole. We believe that the more traditional classroom setting in D Block will better support our senior students, who, as in any primary school, present the most complex classroom behaviour dynamics. We feel the developmental phase of Year 3 & 4 students makes them ideal students to make the most of the opportunities presented by the C-Block setup.
Last Sunday’s fete was a remarkable event, showcasing the incredible support and spirit of our community. It was fantastic to see so many families, staff, and students come together to enjoy the day. I know that my two children thoroughly enjoyed the fun (and sugar) and are already excited about coming back next year. The success of this event is a testament to the strong sense of community that makes Port Melbourne Primary School so special. This year’s event was so successful because of the many families who donated their time, effort and financial support - thank you to everyone who helped out. A special thanks to the PFA members that poured hundreds of hours into planning and preparing for this event and made it what it was. We will recognise the PFA members and other parents who were so crucial to the success of this year’s Fete at an upcoming assembly.
Next week, we start filming an updated virtual tour of our school. This video will show off our teachers, facilities, and the community that makes PMPS such a great school. The video is part of our broader communications strategy aimed at maintaining our position as the school-of-choice in the local area among growing competition from neighbouring schools. Some families might have received a consent form for their children's participation in this video. We look forward to sharing the video with you once complete.
It’s with mixed feelings that I share that Amelia, our wonderful youth worker, will not be returning from her home country, Canada after returning there for some planned leave in Term 3. We wish Amelia all the best with this move and we’re excited that she is able to reconnect and spend more time with friends and family in Canada. We greatly appreciate Amelia’s contribution to the Port Melbourne Primary School community. She was a valuable member of our wellbeing team and built warm, positive and nurturing relationships with many staff, students and families.
We are working through the back-filling of Amelia’s role and will provide further updates as this process progresses.
As we pass the midpoint of the term, I wish you a safe and healthy fortnight as we move closer to Summer ☀️
