Q&A with Clarke Bull, IT
This week, our Library Captains Imogen Evans and Eloise Rogers sat down for a chat with Clarke Bull from our IT department:
LC: What book are you currently reading?
CB: I’m reading a book called Zero by an author from the US named Tom Leveen. It’s a contemporary YA book. It’s an interesting first-person narrative from the perspective of a 17-year-old girl navigating lots of challenges.
LC: What is your favourite book/author/genre?
CB: My favourite style is usually realistic/contemporary books. I also loved the Harry Potter series, though. One of my favourite authors as a kid was Stephen King, as well.
LC: What book is especially meaningful to you?
CB: Not sure really, there’s been quite a few books that I’ve connected with. I’d have to say Holes by Louis Sachar was one of my favourites. I also enjoyed The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky when I was younger.
LC: Do you prefer your stories as books, audiobooks, ebooks or podcasts?
CB: Good question, I’d have to say physical books are easiest and best for me, although I’ll listen to the occasional audiobook.
LC: Do you have any books you would recommend?
CB: I’d definitely recommend Wonder by R.J. Palacio, and if you’re looking for something fun, Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn is a great one.
Book Club - 10 Nov, Library 2
Are you a bookworm, an avid reader, or simply someone who loves to get lost in the magic of stories? Introducing our School's new Wantirna Book Club! The Book Club involves discussing your chosen book for that term (with a new theme each term) and is a great way to make new friends with similar interests. You'll also get a sneak peak at new books in the library! This club is open to students from all year levels.
The first meeting will be at lunchtime on Friday 10 November (Week 6) in Library 2. Our theme this term is 'Your favourite book'! So grab a book, grab a friend and come along!
For further updates about the Wantirna Book Club, please message Mr Hawkins over Teams or email (haw@wantirnacollege.vic.edu.au) to request an invite to the Wantirna Book Club channel on Teams.
Resident Writers
Resident Writers is a chance for all writers and poets out there to share their writing talents with the school community. It is held once a term, and there are three categories – Students, Staff, and Family & Friends.
There is a prize for the wining student entry – the winning student gets to choose between a wonderful $25 Dymocks voucher or one of five amazing notebooks!
As a rough guide, your work should be between 250 – 350 words. Send your entries to library@wantirnacollege.vic.edu.au with the subject line Resident Writers entry.
If it is a Family & Friends submission, please mention which student or staff member you are connected to. Please get your wonderful pieces in by the end of Week 7 (Sunday 19 November). By submitting you agree to be published to the school community (on Teams, in the College Yearbook, etc). Please contact us if you want to submit but prefer to keep your work anonymous.
Submit your writing pieces now!

Library Loans
As the year winds down, the Library staff would appreciate it if students could check their Library loans and return any overdue or forgotten books. To find out what your loans are, head to the Library catalogue by clicking on the link in the Compass star-dropdown menu. Log in using your school details, then click on your name to open a dropdown menu and choose Loans. It's that easy!
Best wishes for a great term break!
