Year 12 Celebrations
Friday 20 October marked the final day for the class of 2023. To officially start off the day, Year 12 students gathered in the Theatre where Year 12 Year Level Leaders, Mr Pollock and Ms Fonda, said their final words and showed a montage with photos from the last 6 years. Students were left feeling nostalgic and were able to reflect on their high school experience at Wantirna College.
At recess, the Year 12 Captains thanked the Year 12 teachers on behalf of the cohort by gifting them with a photo of their class with some final messages. Before their final assembly students had the chance to take photos in the photobooth, sign their t-shirts, and compete on the inflatable obstacle course. Students also had the opportunity to let their hair down as they danced to some tunes played by our very own DJ, Rani Mitri, in the Pathway Hub.
The day ended with a final assembly that included senior school students, staff and parents. At the end, staff members and parents made a guard of honour for the Year 12s as they exited their final assembly -the makings of a new tradition. There were tears and laughter as the day finally came to an end.
A massive congratulations to the Year 12 cohort. We are so proud of everything you have achieved this year and look forward to seeing what the future holds for you. Good luck to our VCE students for your final exams. We look forward to celebrating again with everyone at Valedictory!
Year 11 Exams 13 - 20 Nov
Year 11 Exam Information, including timetable and expectations, has recently been published to all students and parents on Teams and Compass.
Year 11 VCE exams will occur from Monday 13 November - Monday 20 November. Further information can be found in the following attachment:
Step Up Program 21 - 29 Nov
Year 10 into 11
The purpose of Step Up is to help maximise the learning opportunities and delivery of the Unit 3 VCE / VM Curriculum Program. Teachers will have the opportunity to start teaching Unit 3 and provide students with targeted holiday homework. This is to ensure that, at the start of the following academic year, students have a solid foundation of required key knowledge and key skills to build upon for the rest of Unit 3.
Commencing Unit 3 in the previous year, will mean more learning time can be spent on Exam preparation and Exam revision the following year. It will also increase time devoted to SACs and SAC preparation.
Year 11 into 12
The Step-Up program for Year 11 VCE / VM students going into Year 12 in 2024, is a seven-day program starting on Tuesday 21 November and will conclude with a Year 11 Academic Review Conference on Thursday 30 November.
Year 11 Academic Review Conferences 30 Nov
All Year 11 VCE and VM students are required to attend a 15-minute, student-led, conference with their Explore teacher on Thursday 30 November. The purpose of this conference is for students to critically reflect and review their Exam preparation and performance, as well as the overall academic school year.
In addition, students will set learning growth goals for Term 1 2024, based on areas of improvement and discussions during the conference. Parents are encouraged to attend. These conferences are compulsory for all VCE & VM students, and any student who does not attend may be required to attend the review meeting in Week 10.
Explore Term 4
Explore is compulsory for all students across Years 9 – 12. We would like to express the importance of your child's attendance at the Explore program each Wednesday during Period 3.
Explore is designed to allow students to 'explore' who they are, who they can be, how to be their best and how to confidently navigate a lifetime of careers. Students engage in a combination of Study Skills, Career Education and Wellbeing and Respectful Relationship programs.
Students who don’t attend regularly will miss important learning and information. Please see the attached Explore Program outline for Term 4.
Senior School Leaders vs Captains Competition
On Friday 13 October, we held our first ever Senior School Competition. We had the Senior School YLLs and Leaders take on the 20 Captains in a game of Rob the Nest and Tug of War. Mr Murphy stood in as referee to ensure a fair game and Ms Mingos joined the ranks as the official MC of the event. There were some claims that during Rob the Nest some teachers may have collected one too many items at once! Regardless of these allegations, the Captains still came out on top and won the first game.
To finish the competition, both teams went head-to-head in Tug of War. It was clear that the teachers were rattled once they noticed their 10 staff paled in comparison to the 20 Captains. In a desperate attempt, the teachers recruited our AFL Trainee, Gemma, and Mr Kos. Unfortunately, this was not enough and the game ended within 17 seconds. The Captains had taken the second game and thus won the entire Senior School Competition. Great job to the Captains. They can hold their heads up high and the trophy will be on display in the Senior Centre until next year when we face off once again.
