Music Items at our Remembrance Day Assembly

In what was a fitting tribute in remembrance of those who have served our country, Gabrielle McMaster and our Junior Singers performed special pieces at our Remembrance Day service today.

Junior Singers performed ‘Song of Peace / Dona Nobis Pacem’ which was a poignant and meaningful choice for our Remembrance Day service. This piece captures the universal desire for peace and reconciliation, making it a fitting tribute to honour the memory of those who have sacrificed their lives in times of conflict. With its inclusion of 'Dona Nobis Pacem,' which means 'Grant Us Peace' in Latin, the song serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of peace, unity, and the hope for a world free from the ravages of war.

To mark the minute’s silence at our service today, Gabrielle McMaster performed an outstanding rendition of The Last Post and The Rouse. The Last Post and The Rouse are played to honour and remember the sacrifices of those who served in the armed forces. These two calls, traditionally played on bugle, hold deep significance, serving as symbols of remembrance and reflection. The Last Post is traditionally played to mark the end of the day's activities and symbolises the final farewell to fallen comrades. In contrast, The Rouse, played after The Last Post, symbolises hope and resurrection, signifying the duty to remember and carry on the legacy of those who have given their lives. Together, these two bugle calls create a powerful tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Australian service members, making them a central part of annual ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies.

National Drumline Camp

Our Senior Drumline members, including Josephine Colacino, Ella Bowler, Zena Colacino, Kaitlin Weiser, Toby Chivers and Saxon Baines, demonstrated their dedication to continually improve their Drumline technique and skills by participating in the National Drumline Camp, facilitated by several Drumline experts from around the world, over the Term 3 holidays.

Below is a summary of this fantastic event by Ella Bowler:

"Throughout the holidays on the 29th - 31st of September, all of the MAG Senior Drumline members attended the National Drumline Camp in Melbourne. We attended the camp with over 40 other young drummers from around Victoria. The camp included learning new warmups, learning a mass drumline cadence, participating in a performance workshop and being placed in 3 different drumlines to learn a group cadence. Everyone in the MAG drumline was placed in the red line where we learned a cadence called “Give it to me”.

The drumline camp was run by Campbell Phillips, and we were fortunate enough to be taught by Cam and Harry Potocnik who run the D2 drumline in Melbourne. We also had the pleasure of being taught by Ralph Nadar who is a famous percussionist from America, well known for his performance with Beyoncé at Coachella in 2018. Lastly, we were taught by the amazing Chelsea Levine, who is a world famous cymbal player, who led our performance workshop, teaching us how to march and move correctly.

On the last day we participated in a group performance showing off our new skills and cadences to all the parents and friends, and were extremely lucky to watch Ralph Nadar do a 10 minute performance, consisting of dancing, drumming and lots of stick tricks!

The camp was an awesome experience for everyone, we learnt of a lot of new skills and tricks, and met lots of other young drummers from around Victoria. I can confidently say we would all highly recommend going no matter how much experience you have had!"
