Secondary School

Message from the Head of Teaching and Learning Secondary

Term 4 traditionally flies by in the day of a teacher or for those involved in education. Add in a short week, and this feeling is even more accurate! Where has the term gone? Where has this week gone? How is it that we are approaching Week 6 already?

From a Secondary School perspective, I am very grateful for the team of teachers and professional staff who have supported our Year 10 students as they sat their final examinations this week. The students have conducted themselves well and learnt lessons on sitting examinations and using their study time effectively, along the way. This experience is a huge milestone in a student's time at school, and builds their confidence as they commence Year 11 and Year 12. Every lesson counts.

Our Year 10's also are jittery with excitement as they commence Work Experience over the next fortnight. Thank you to all the businesses and local institutions who will host one of our students. These opportunities are integral to our students success and we wish them all the best as they learn what life outside of school, in a different profession entails.

I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the significant contribution of Mr Andrew Liu to our School. Andrew has been an integral part of both the Mathematics and Science faculties over the past two years. We, as a school, are very sad to see him leave, however, wish him all the best as he embraces life in Sydney.

It's a busy time and there are many significant events coming up for all year levels. Please ensure that you are checking SEQTA and our school calendar so that major events for your child are not missed.

Have a wonderful weekend.

LifeChanger Workshops

Last week, our Year 7 - 9 students participated in a number of wellbeing focused workshops facilitated by LifeChanger Foundation. These interactive sessions were centred around the five pillars of Health, Skills, Self, Purpose and Tribe to build emotional, social and resilience skills.

The workshops were highly engaging and provided opportunities for our students to connect and collaborate with their peers and mentors. The key themes explored included physical and mental health, mindfulness, goal setting, problem-solving, gratitude, self-awareness, resilience and connection.

Year 8

Visual Art

Year 8 Visual Art students have been learning about Landscape Drawing, including one-point perspective and aerial perspective. Last week students ventured outdoors to test out their skills, using the Moama Botanic Gardens as inspiration.

Year 11

HSC PDHPE Sports Medicine Unit (Class of 2024)

Our HSC PDHPE classes are currently studying their unit on Sports Medicine. A component of this unit requires students to demonstrate taping and bandaging techniques for injury prevention. We were lucky enough to have Moama Football Netball Club trainer, and recently graduated student from the class of 2023, Olivia Davy in to show the students the correct taping technique and the importance of taping, particularly when returning from injury.

Year 12 Camp (Class of 2024)

"Giant Swing, Rock Climbing, High Ropes are just some of the things our Year 12 Cohort took on within our four day adventure to the heights of Howman’s Gap. If we weren’t outside, we were in the main dining hall being entertained by Darren and Timmy D from Success Integrated. These guys exposed us to various skills in Leadership and Positive Study habits to ensure we are all able to achieve our best in the coming year. Outside of scheduled activities, our time was spent playing Pool and Table Tennis and challenging each other. Other highlights from the group included being pushed out of our comfort zones with the high ropes and the loud screams that could be heard coming from the giant swing, spending time bonding with each other in our free time and competing against Thommo in her favorite game, Werewolf was definitely a highlight for many. Lastly, hanging around and singing at the campfire on the final night was a wholesome memory that will always be remembered. We are positive that we have all come away from the experience (minus the sickening feeling of the windy mountain trip) invigorated and ready to take on the year ahead. Thanks to the five staff Ms Hildebrand, Mr Townrow, Miss Thompson, Ms Acquino and Ms Duncan for taking the time to assist in ensuring that we all had a great time. Also, a special mention to Bob the bus driver for getting us up and down the mountain safely."
