Class News from F/1S

This term our class has visited Glenthorne National Park to enrich our iUnit topics:

  • Foundation - Belonging to and looking after special places.
  • Year 1 - Identifying and looking after natural, managed and built features.

We enjoyed 3 sessions of Aquatics Awareness at the SA Aquatics and Leisure Centre.

We  were excited to be involved in two more Intergenerational Play times with the Seeds Seniors.

Through our poetry lessons, we have focussed on punctuation, expression, rhyme and performance.

This term we have been busy rehearsing our Nativity Play and songs for our Christmas Celebration Evening next week. We hope to see you there!

Australia-Indonesia BRIDGE School Partnerships Program

What a special week it was having Bu Pritta and Bu Annisa from SDN Kowang in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, visiting Pilgrim School!

Pritta and Annisa shared stories about their culture with students. They brought postcards from their students which our students then replied to. The Year 5 class even got to have a Google Meet with some of the students from Pritta and Annisa's school, enjoying a performance on the angklung (an Indonesian instrument) and asking and responding to questions. Pritta and Annisa also spent time in the F/1 and Year 3/4 classes, observing learning and joining in with maths games, literacy activities and other learning. It was wonderful to see students being brave and trying out their Indonesian skills on Pritta and Annisa, as well as hearing the insightful questions our students had, taking advantage of the opportunity to learn first hand something about Indonesian life and culture.

This visit marks just the beginning of an anticipated long term relationship between Pilgrim School and SDN Kowang, something that will enable deep intercultural learning for the students of both schools.

Year 2 Excursion

In Week 5, our Year 2s went on an excursion to Adelaide Oval. Our tour included a walk on the side of the grounds and behind the scenes where the players warm up before a game, the tunnel that players use to come onto the oval, and the Media room which had spectacular views of the stadium. We also looked at significant sporting statues situated around the building, as well as viewing the Sir Donald Bradman collection. Students thoroughly enjoyed exploring how the Adelaide Oval was a significant place in the past and today.

Year 2 Serve Project

In Week 3, Year 2 students made and sold slushies to raise money for the Backpacks 4 SA Kids charity. We are thankful to all those students who supported our Serve project. The final total that we raised was $115 which is a great donation for the charity.
