Prep-Grade 2
Easter Hat Parade
At the end of Term 1, we had our very first Easter Hat Parade! There were so many big smiles and excited Preps seeing the Easter Bunny.
Easter Hunt
On the last day of term, we also had a 'word hunt'. We had to find a some of the words that we have learnt, then tick them off our list. We were also able to explore the bottom oval for the first time.
So far in Maths, we have been playing partner games to practise our numbers to ten and turn taking! We have also been continuing to practise making patterns.
Can you help?
In a few weeks, we will be building a bridge for a troll to cross as part of our Fairy tale unit in Topic. We are on the lookout for materials that the students could use to build the bridge that they will design.
If you have some of the items below, or anything else that you think could work, please send it in for the three Prep classrooms to share. Please make sure that they are clean.
Literacy
In week 3, we will be revising the sounds 'y', 'r', 'e', 'qu' and 'z'. We will continue to practise writing words, lists and sentences using words that include these sounds.
In week 4, we will be learning about the sounds j, u, k.
Over the next two weeks we will be reading Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs. We will be learning the Heart Words 'to' and 'was'.
Mathematics
In week 3, we will be learning to sequence everyday events, what the days of the week are, and things that we do on particular days. You can ask your child to recall what they do on particular days of the week (eg. basketball on Monday, soccer on Saturday, swimming on Wednesday). You can also help them to put events into time order (eg. first I brush my teeth, second I put my school shoes on, third I get in the car).
In week 4, we will be learning about capacity. We will be figuring out which container holds more and why. We will be using language such as ‘holds more’ and ‘holds less’.
Topic
In Topic, we will be making Little Red Riding Hood a coat and making playdough. Then we will use our playdough to make a pig, before making a boat to see if we can get our pig to float.
To make our playdough we will be using plain flour, salt, oil, and food colouring. Please let your classroom teacher know if your child is unable to make playdough.
Respectful Relationship
We will be discussing how all families are different and learning about permission and consent.
