Engagement & Wellbeing

Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships:
This term our 5/6 classrooms are learning about Help Seeking. Seeking help can be a great skill in life.
We have been working hard on RR. We have been learning on how to reach out for help in a problem, this included working together and helping each other out. These activities help to build confidence and bravery in us.
Today we created a problem-solving board in groups.

Our Whole School Gugu sticker reward display has been reset for a new term and classes have already begun adding jigsaw pieces. Everyone is excited to hear what this term's Level 1 and Level 2 Whole School Rewards will be and these will be announced soon.
Don't forget to keep an eye on the display, next to the office, to see how we are progressing throughout the term.
Classroom Expectations Posters
Thanks to Mr Parkes, many classes are now displaying these great A1 sized Classroom Matrices. These larger posters are a great way of making sure everyone is aware of what is expected in every class. These are personalised to suit the needs, spaces, activities, routines and procedures for each class. However, all Classroom Matrices use common SWPBS language which highlights and strengthens our School Values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.
WELCOME JUNIOR MEMBERS
We extend a big welcome to our Prep-2 SRC members, who were elected by their peers this term. They have already made valuable contributions during their very first meeting today.
Welcome to:
Alexandra M (Prep Dunn), Charlie F (Prep Mortlock), Charlie R (Prep Floyd)
Reuben F (1/2 Edwards), Eve M (1/2 Murphy), Ashja B-M (1/2 Lockett)
Angus B (1/2 Patrao-Hurley), Dusty M (1/2 Rodda).
MINDFULNESS CLUB
Our new Mindfulness Club is due to start in Week 3! We are seeking resources, such as cushions, blankets and soft toys that are in good condition to use for our club! Donations can be sent to classroom teachers, who then can forward to our SRC Team!
MINDFULNESS RESOURCES
Our SRC representatives have done a fantastic job checking in with their cohorts to see how some of the new 'mindful funds' are being put to use. A reminder that last year, our 2024 SRC reps organised a whole-school vote for a new mini upgrade, with 'mindfulness resources' chosen as the winning option! Teams are now beginning to purchase and enhance small areas to create quiet spaces for our students to enjoy. Below are some pictures of these exciting new resources

SunSmart Policy
The official implementation of our SunSmart policy will conclude at the end of April, so hats are not officially required after this time.
However, students are still encouraged to continue being SunSmart throughout the whole year.
Families are encouraged to access the daily local sun protection times via the SunSmart widget on the school’s website, sunsmart.com.au or the free SunSmart app. Sun protection times can also be found at the Bureau of Meteorology website and live UV levels are available from ARPANSA.
Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and SGPS is excited to be taking part! Individual logins and passwords will be coming home within the next week.
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 and aims to help young readers develop a lifelong love of reading.
It is not a competition; it is a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 5 September 2025.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 6 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement.
To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge
