Principal's Report

Social Media - Photos and Videos of Students

From time to time, we are contacted by families who discover that their child has been posted on a social media platform without their permission. Although this has never been done by anyone at SGPS with the intention to halm or upset, it is important to know that our school policy only permits this with the prior consent of the person/s whose child also appears in the image. Please respect the privacy of other families when posting photos (and videos) online.

Below is an extract from our policy.

Spring Gully Primary School permits parents/carers, students and invited guests to photograph, film or record school performances, sporting events and other school-approved activities.

Spring Gully Primary School requests that parents/carers, students and invited guests who photograph, film or record school activities only do so for their own personal use and do not publish the images in any form, including on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Messenger, without the prior consent of persons whose children also appear in the images.

Neither the school nor the department own or control any images of students taken by parents/carers, students or their invited guests at school activities.

Parent Club Fundraisers

Thanks very much to every family that volunteered their time to help sell sausages at Bunnings on Saturday. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thanks also to our Parent Club members for all of the time and effort that went into running this event!

Acting Assistant Principal

As indicated in the newsletter at the end of Term 1, Mr Parkes will be working at another school for the first 4 weeks of this term. This is part of a course he is undertaking with the Victorian Acadamy of Teaching and Leadership. Mr Parkes will return to SGPS on Wednesday 21st May.

Mrs Jenna Brewer will be the Acting Assistant Principal during this time. Please feel free to contact Jenna if you need to: jenna.brewer@education.vic.gov.au

ANZAC Service

On behalf of our schoool, I would like to thank Warrant Officer Class One Joel Anderson and Able Seaman John McCorkelle for being a special part of our ANZAC Day service. It is greatly appreciated when parents can contribute their time to the school and share their knowledge and talents, especially for such a significant event. I would also like to thank Clara from Grade 5 for singing our National Anthem. She did an amazing job!

Our School Captains, Vice Captains, Indigenous Student Leaders and House Captains all did a terrific job presenting our service. It takes a lot of courage to speak in front of the whole school, you should all be very proud of your efforts.

Mother’s Day Breakfast

Sonia circulated some Mother’s Day Breakfast information via Compass recently. Please check that post, as we would love to have you with us for breakfast on Friday 9th May.

Mrs Leed has facilitated the creation of a Mother’s & Special Friend’s Day gift again this year. Families can place an order for gifts via the Canteen module in Compass, if they haven't already done so. In addition to this, families can also place an order for Mother’s & Special Friend’s Day breakfast, taking place in the Hub on Friday 9th May from 7.00am to 8.30am. Please see Sonia's recent Compass message for further details.

The gift is a great opportunity for students to make something special for their loved ones, but it is also a valuable fundraiser for our school and the brekky is an awesome way to celebrate Mother’s Day. Thank you very much for your support.
