Welcome back everyone for Term 2. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the Easter break and the short, first week back leading into ANZAC Day last Friday.
While we're on ANZAC Day, we'd like to say well done to all our Grade 5/6 students who lead an excellent ANZAC service for our school community last week. Also, a big thank-you to Mrs Garmey for coordinating the event!
As always, we have a full term planned for our 5/6's and can't wait to get started! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us using the information below.
There is always a lot going on in Grade 5/6. We will do our best to communicate through our Newsletter and Compass. Please keep an eye on these two spaces for upcoming events and permissions. If at any stage you need to contact one of our team, our emails are below;

The first forms for our Grade 6 Transition have been sent out this week. Forms will need to be completed and returned to school before Friday 9th May. Even if you have applied for an independent school, please return the form with that information on the back page.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact our Transition Coordinator, Luke Crawford, at Luke.Crawford@education.vic.gov.au .
BSE have sent us their Events Timeline which we have attached below. Although some of these dates will apply across the state, if you intend to enrol your child at another school please make contact with the school to confirm their transition events.
In Mathematics, we have been developing our addition skills. Students have been working at their own point of need exploring a range of concepts such as partitioning, adding decimals, fractions and large numbers. You can support this at home by encouraging your child to calculate money problems and practice their times tables.
Our Literacy work was focused on ANZAC Day in Week 1. Students explored the experience of indigenous soldiers through news stories and narratives. This week we have begun analysing texts and exploring issues connected to sustainability and the environment. We have also begun our first Novel study of the year, the 1964 Australian classic 'Storm Boy' by Colin Thiele!
