                                                                          Grade 3-6

We've had a fantastic start to Term 2! We've launched into our new topic, 'Someone Else's Shoes', where we're exploring the impact of disabilities on people's lives. This unit is helping us to build empathy, show respect, and offer support to others. Our new ICT rotations are now underway, with each class focusing on a different area of technology. We've also kicked off our second rotation in Science – and there’s so much more exciting learning happening too!

A reminder that you can contact us if you have any queries, questions, concerns or most importantly... positive feedback!

Our team (and emails) are as follows;

What we are learning...

MATHEMATICS

In Fluid Maths, we’ve launched into a new focus on multiplication and division. We’ve explored everything from repeated addition and arrays to prime numbers, factors, and multiples—covering all the key building blocks along the way.

In Applied Mathematics, we’ve been learning how to collect and represent data using different types of graphs. We even took it a step further by analysing the data and making some interesting conclusions based on what we discovered.

During our Problem-Solving sessions, we dove deeper into data collection by attempting to break the leapfrog world record set in 2021! It was a fantastic challenge—and a whole lot of fun.

LITERACY

We began the term by deepening our understanding of the significance of ANZAC Day and its importance in Australia’s history. We explored a range of stories and articles, built our vocabulary, and used this knowledge to create powerful Cinquain poems that reflect the spirit and meaning of ANZAC Day.

Throughout our Reading and Writing sessions, we’ve been focusing on identifying and using clear paragraphing and more sophisticated descriptive vocabulary. These skills help us structure our writing more effectively and make it more engaging for the reader.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING

During our Upstander lessons, we explored and practised effective ways to respond to bullying, such as using assertive 'I' statements and reaching out to a trusted adult for support.

Our RRRR focus for this fortnight is 'Help Seeking', where students describe factors that contribute to positive relationships by identifying communication skills that enhance interactions within specific groups and purposes, and by recognising and providing evidence of cooperative behaviours in group activities.

ANZAC DAY

In Week 1, we were incredibly lucky to have a special guest speaker, Mr Joel Anderson (also known as Darby’s dad), visit our school. Joel shared his fascinating experiences as a technician and essential repairman during his time in Iraq, Timor, and Afghanistan. Our students listened with great interest and showed wonderful respect throughout his presentation. Some even had the chance to try on parts of his uniform while learning about the different designs and the meanings behind the patches. A big thank you to Joel – we loved hearing your stories and had a blast asking you a truckload of questions!
