Student success

On Saturday 3rd May, while everyone else was voting, Alex E (Riddells Creek Scouts), Damon E (Woodend Scouts) and Breanna E (Woodend Scouts) were 3 of only 80 scouts from all across Victoria presented with their Australian Scout Award at the Victorian State Award Ceremony.

 

The Australian Scout Award (ASA) is the peak award that can be achieved by scouts aged 11-14. It is the culmination of three years’ work, completing at least 17 badges and leading at least 5 activities for the Unit in the process.

 

To be awarded the Australian Scout Award, Scouts need to complete:

 

Program Essentials

  • Milestone 3 (participate in 4 activities in the challenge areas of Community, Outdoor, Personal Growth and Creative, assist with running 4 activities and lead 4 activities)

Outdoor Adventure Skills

  • Stage 5 in all three Core Areas of Bushcraft, Bushwalking and Camping 
  • Progress 10 Stages in any area (Aquatic, Alpine, Boating, Bushcraft, Bushwalking, Camping Cycling, Paddling, Vertical)

Special Interest Areas

  • 6 Projects in at least 3 areas 
  • Each Project is a minimum 8-hour duration

Adventurous Journey

  • Plan and lead an Adventurous Journey of at least 3 days / 2 nights' duration.

Personal Development Course

  • Weekend Personal Development or Unit Management Course

Personal Reflection

  • Upon completion of the components towards the Australian Scout Award, the Scout then Reviews their journey through the Section

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Breanna made a speech on behalf of the recipients, thanking their families, scout leaders and peers for their hard work and assistance in achieving the Awards. She acknowledged that achieving a Peak Award is a team effort and cannot be done in isolation.

 

These three Year 9 students should be congratulated on their outstanding achievement.
